HP Notebook PCs - Windows Serious Error Message Encountered During Startup or Boot in Windows XP

What is a Windows Serious Error?
A Serious Error is an error message from the Microsoft Windows operating system that will pop-up in a small window on the Windows Desktop. It will normally occur immediately after starting Microsoft Windows when a "Blue Screen" crash has occurred in the previous session. You may experience a blue screen error if "auto boot on error" is disabled in Microsoft Windows in which case the serious error message will occur after the PC is re-started.
The serious error message will prompt you to "Send Error Report". The report is used by HP and Microsoft to analyze crashes occurring on HP computers. Based on the analysis, certified solutions are developed by HP with our partners. The solutions are available for our customers through knowledge articles or software updates. The options for obtaining these solutions are provided below.
  note:
In some instances, a Windows Serious Error may display every time you restart the computer, even if no error occurred during the previous session. After this problem begins to occur, you are prompted to send the information after every restart. This is not the normal Windows Serious error behavior. If you encounter this problem, see "System Has Recovered from a Serious Error" Occurs After Every Startup or Boot.
Options to Eliminate the Blue Screen or Serious Error
Use the following options to stop a serious error from occurring.
Option 1: Report Error and Check for Solution
Please complete the following steps immediately after encountering a Windows Serious Error:
  1. Select Send Error Report.
  2. Select More Information to see if there is a solution to the crash.
  3. Follow the instructions on the Online Crash Analysis screen.
Option 2: Update Software and Drivers
HP along with our partners is continuously analyzing the crash data provided from your crash reports. New software updates are provided monthly based on this data. HP recommends that you check for updates from Microsoft and HP once a month to assure your system has the latest software to keep your system running optimally. See HP Notebook PCs - Updating Software, Drivers and Firmware (BIOS) for 2 simple steps to perform on a monthly basis to keep your software updated.
Option 3: Use HP Certified Solutions for Reported Crashes
Below is a list of HP certified solutions for reported crashes organized by driver file name as reported by a Blue Screen or Serious Error. Select the file that most closely resembles what is reported by the Blue Screen or Serious Error.
