HP Deskjet 1220c Professional Series Printer - Black Lines or Streaks in the Printout
Black lines or streaks are visible in the printout.
Clean the service station and carriage by following the steps below:
Turn on the printer and allow the cartridges to move toward the center of the printer.
Unplug the printer.
Manually move the cartridges to the center of the printer.
Check the service station for ink buildup and clean as necessary.
Remove the print cartridges and check for ink buildup. Clean the print cartridges with a piece of lint-free cloth as necessary, being careful to avoid touching or pushing debris onto the nozzle plate.
caution:Do not leave the print cartridges outside the printer for longer than 30 minutes. If a cartridge remains uncapped for too long, the ink will dry out, and the cartridge will become unusable. Be careful not to get any ink on hands or clothes.
Cut a piece of lint-free material, such as a coffee filter, into a 1 x 6 inch strip.
Gently lift the carriage, slide the strip of lint-free material under the carriage, and clean the bottom of the carriage by moving the lint-free material in a side-to-side, or flossing motion.
Install the print cartridges, turn on the printer, and try printing.
Over time, dust or hair may enter the printer and accumulate. The debris may stick to the bottom of the carriage and rub against the paper as the carriage moves from side to side. If the debris builds up on the capping station, additional debris may be transferred to the carriage each time the carriage moves into the capping station. The material may cause the ink to be smeared on the page and appear as a line or streak.
