HP Compaq 6910p Notebook PC - Removing and Replacing the Real-time Clock Battery

Introduction

This document is provided to assist in removing and replacing the Real-time Clock Battery for the HP Compaq 6910p Notebook PC.

Minimum skill level

The End User requires no hardware-specific training to replace the defective part. The End user should have familiarity with system hardware and software requiring repair.

Tools required

  • P1 Phillips-head screw driver

Real-time clock battery removal

  1. Review the safety considerations before performing the steps listed below by clicking on the following link:

    Failure to comply with the precautions could result in damage to your product or loss of data.
  2. Disconnect the RTC battery cable from the system board.
  3. Unroute the RTC battery cable from the plastic tabs on the top cover.
  4. Use a small, flat-bladed tool to carefully pry the RTC battery out of the socket on the top cover.
  5. While lifting the RTC battery, guide the RTC battery cable and connector through the opening in the side of the RTC battery socket.

Real-time clock battery replacement

  1. Remove the paper backing from the RTC battery.
  2. While guiding the RTC battery cable and connector through the opening in the side of the RTC battery socket, insert and press the RTC battery into the socket on the top cover.
  3. Route the RTC battery cable into the plastic tabs on the top cover.
  4. Reconnect the RTC battery cable to the system board.
