Removing and Replacing the Service Cover for HP Pavilion g6-2000, g6-2100, g6-2200 and g6-2300 Notebook PCs

This document applies to HP Pavilion g6-2xxx series notebook computers.

Before you begin

  • You need a Phillips head screwdriver.
  • Turn off the computer. Disconnect the Ethernet or modem cable. Disconnect the power cord.
  • Transfer the computer to a clear, flat, stable work surface over a non-carpeted floor.
  • HP strongly recommends the use of an anti-static wrist strap and a conductive foam pad when working on the computer.
  • Do not remove a component from its protective packaging until you are ready to install it.

The edges of metal panels can cut skin. Be careful not to slide skin along any interior metal edge of the computer.

Before starting, power off the computer and wait for components to cool before starting these procedures.

This product contains components that can be damaged by electrostatic discharge (ESD). To reduce the chance of ESD damage, work over a noncarpeted floor, use a static dissipative work surface (such as a conductive foam pad), and wear an ESD wrist strap connected to a grounded surface.

Removing the service cover

Make sure the computer is disconnected from power before starting.
Follow the steps in this section to remove the service cover.

Remove the battery.

Loosen the captive Phillips head screw that secures the service cover to the base enclosure.

Slide the service cover toward the front of the computer.

Lift the right side of the service cover and remove the tabs on the left side of the service cover from the cut outs in the base enclosure.

Remove the service cover.

Replacing the service cover

Use the steps in this section to replace the service cover.
Step 1
Align the tabs on the left side of the service cover into the cut outs in the base enclosure.

Slide the service cover towards the rear of the computer until it is properly seated.

Tighten the captive Phillips head screw that secures the service cover to the base enclosure.
