HP EliteBook 2540p Notebook PC - Removing and Replacing the Wireless WAN Module

Introduction

This document is provided to assist in removing and replacing the wireless WAN module for the HP EliteBook 2540p Notebook PC.

Minimum skill level

The End User requires no hardware-specific training to replace the defective part. The End user should have familiarity with system hardware and software requiring repair.

Tools required

Small, Phillips-head (P00 and P1) screwdrivers

Part numbers are subject to change.
The replacement part number will vary depending on the wireless WAN module that is being replaced. If a part is listed as "Yes" under "Requires Return" then the defective part needs to be returned to HP. Click here for more information on returning parts to HP.

Wireless WAN module removal

  1. Review the safety considerations before performing the steps listed below by clicking on the following link:
      atención:
    Failure to comply with the precautions could result in damage to your product or loss of data.
  2. On the bottom of the notebook, loosen the captive P1 Phillips-head screw identified with a wireless icon that secure the wireless module cover to the bottom of the notebook.
  3. Lift the wireless module cover and remove it.
  4. Carefully disconnect the wireless antenna cables from the wireless WAN module by grasping the connectors with a pair of small needle nose pliers or tweezers.
    nota:
    Make careful note of which wireless antenna cable is connected to each terminal on the wireless WAN module for later replacement.
      atención:
    Use care when disconnecting the wireless antenna cables from the wireless WAN module. Damaged cables or connectors can degrade notebook performance.
  5. Remove the two 6 mm P1 Phillips-head screws that secure the wireless WAN module to the system board and allow it to release to the spring tension position.
  6. Grasp the wireless WAN module by the edges and pull gently to remove it.
  7. Place the wireless WAN module in a static dissipative bag.

Wireless WAN module replacement

  1. Grasp the wireless WAN module by its edges and remove it from the static dissipative bag.
  2. Align the notch in the wireless WAN module with the key in the wireless WAN module slot on the system board.
  3. At an angle, gently insert the wireless WAN module into its slot on the system board.
  4. Press the wireless WAN module down and replace the two 6 mm P1 Phillips-head screws that secure the wireless WAN module to the system board.
  5. Reconnect the wireless antenna cables to the wireless WAN module and tuck the wireless antenna cables between the base enclosure and system board.
      atención:
    Use care when disconnecting the wireless antenna cables from the wireless WAN module. Damaged cables or connectors can degrade notebook performance.
  6. Toe the wireless module cover into the base enclosure and lower it into position.
  7. Tighten the captive P1 Phillips-head screw identified with a wireless icon that secures the wireless module cover to the bottom of the notebook.
