HP Printers - Print with HP ePrint

This document is for HP web-enabled printers that support ePrint.

HP ePrint is a secure cloud-based service that lets you print from anywhere with an active Internet connection. Email the document or photo you want to print directly to the printer.

Step 1: Get the printer email address

Connect your printer to the web, and then get the printer email address.

Printers with a touchscreen or text-based display

Connect your printer to the web, and then get the printer email address.

Turn on the printer, load plain paper in the input tray, and make sure ink or toner cartridges are installed.
Turn on Web Services:
- Touchscreen displays: On the printer, touch or press the HP ePrint button or icon . Tap Setup, and then follow the on-screen instructions to turn on Web Services.
- Text-based displays: On the printer, navigate to Web Services Setup, Network Setup, or Wireless Settings, and then follow the on-screen instructions to turn on Web Services.
If Web Services are enabled already, tap Print or Print Info.

The printer email address displays on the control panel and an info page also prints with the printer email address.
Find the HP ePrint email address that displays. If the printer email address does not display, wait a few hours, and then try printing the info page again.

Printers without a touchscreen or text-based display

Connect your printer to the web, and then get the printer email address.

Android devices

Use the HP Smart app to turn on Web Services, and then get the printer email address.

Make sure your Android device and printer are connected to the same wireless network.
Go to 123.hp.com to install the HP Smart app on your phone or tablet.
On the app home screen, tap the printer icon or the plus sign .
On the My Printer screen in the HP Smart app, tap Advanced Settings.
Tap Web Services, and then confirm that Web Services is enabled.

note:
If you are prompted for a password or PIN, enter the password previously set by the printer administrator or the PIN from the label on your printer. You can find the label on the back of the printer or open the cartridge access door and look inside the printer for the label.
- If Web Services is enabled: The Summary option displays in the Web Services section. Tap Print Info Page, and then continue with these steps.
- If Web Services is not enabled: The Setup option displays in the Web Services section. Tap Setup, follow the on-screen instructions to enable Web Services, and then continue with these steps. An info page prints.
Find the HP ePrint email address on the info page that prints.
- If an info page does not print: Repeat the previous steps to print the info sheet.
- If the info page does not list the printer email address: Wait a few hours, and then try printing the info page again.

Apple iOS devices

Use the HP Smart app to turn on Web Services, and then get the printer code.

Make sure your Apple iOS device is connected to the same wireless network that your current printer is connected to, or that you want to connect a new printer to.
Go to 123.hp.com to install the HP Smart app on your phone or tablet.
On the app home screen, tap the printer icon or the plus sign .
Tap Web Services, and then confirm Web Services is enabled.
- If Web Services is enabled: Return to the Web Services screen, tap Print Info Page, and then continue with these steps.
- If Web Services is not enabled: Tap Continue, follow the on-screen instructions to turn on Web Services, and then continue with these steps. An info page prints.
Locate the HP ePrint email address on the info page that prints.
- If an info page does not print: Repeat the previous steps to print the info sheet.
- If the info page does not list the printer email address: Wait a few hours, and then try printing the info page again.

Computer or Chromebook

Use the Embedded Web Server (EWS) to print an information page to get the printer code.

From your printer, print a Network Configuration or self-test page.

For instructions on printing a Network Configuration or self-test page, search HP Customer Support for your printer model and 'print a configuration page' or 'print a self-test page'.
Find the printer IP address on the Network Configuration or self-test page.
On your computer, open an Internet browser.
Type the printer IP address in the browser address bar, and then press Enter.

note:
Make sure to type the IP address into the browser's address box. If typed into a toolbar or search engine, the Embedded Web Server (EWS) does not open.
If a website security certificate displays in the Internet browser, click Continue.

The EWS information page for the printer opens, confirming the printer is on the same network as the computer.
On the EWS webpage, click the Web Services tab.

note:
If you are prompted for a password or PIN, enter the password previously set by a printer administrator or the PIN from the label on your printer. You can find the label on the back of the printer or open the cartridge access door and look inside the printer for the label.
- If a Web Services tab is not available, your printer does not support HP ePrint.
- If a Web Services Setup page displays, click Continue, Turn On, or Enable, and then follow the on-screen instructions.
- If a Web Services Summary page displays, Web Services is already enabled.
  
  Click Print Info Page under Web Services Settings, and then continue to the next step.
Locate the HP ePrint email address on the info page that prints.
- If an info page does not print: Repeat the previous steps to print the info sheet.
- If the info page does not list the printer email address: Wait a few hours, and then try printing the info page again.

Step 2: Print with HP ePrint

Use the printer's email address to send print jobs to your printer from your computer, laptop, tablet, or smartphone.

Print from a computer or Chromebook

Print from your computer or Chromebook by sending an email to your printer using the printer email address.

Print a document or photo saved on your computer

Create a new email with your personal email account.
Type your printer's email address in the To field.
Type a subject in the email subject line.
Attach the document or photo to the email, and then click Send.

Print an email

Open the email you want to print, and then select Forward.
Type your printer's email address in the To field, and then click Send.

Print a webpage

Open the webpage you want to print, press the Ctrl or Command key and the A key to select the page content, and then press the Ctrl or Command key and the C key to copy it.
Open a new blank document, press the Ctrl or Command key and the V key to paste the content into the document, and then save the document to your computer.
Attach the document to an email message to your printer, and then click Send.

Print from a smartphone or tablet

Print from your Android smartphone or tablet, or Apple iPad, iPhone, or iPod touch by sending an email to your printer using the printer email address.

Print a document or photo saved on your device

Open the document or photo that you want to print.
Tap the Action or Share icon .
Select the email option to open a new email message.
Type your printer's email address in the To field.
Type a subject in the email subject line, and then tap Send.

Print an email

Open the email you want to print, and then tap Forward.
Type your printer's email address in the To field, and then tap Send.

Print a webpage

Open the webpage you want to print, and then tap and hold the screen to select all and copy the content.
Open a new blank document, tap and hold the screen to paste the content into the document, and then save the document to your device.
Attach the document to an email message addressed to your printer, and then tap Send.

What if the HP ePrint job did not print?

If your HP ePrint job fails, confirm the network connection is functioning and check ePrint requirements.

Restart the printer.
Print a test page from a device on the same local network, and then respond to any messages that display.
Make sure the email subject line is filled out, your printer email address is correct, and you have less than ten compatible attachments.

What are the requirements to print with HP ePrint?

To print with HP ePrint, confirm your printer, computer, or mobile device meet the following requirements.

Your printer supports HP ePrint.
- Printers with a touchscreen display: Look for an HP ePrint logo or icon or a Web Services icon on the printer or control panel display.
- Printers with a text-based menu display: Navigate to the Web Services Setup, Network Setup, or Wireless Settings to confirm it has a Web Services menu.
- Printers with LED or buttons-only displays: Press the Information button to print a Printer Information report. Review the report for HP ePrint or Web Services support.
Your printer, computer, and mobile device are connected to a wireless or Ethernet network with an active Internet connection. If you connect your printer with a USB cable, HP ePrint does not work.

Do I need to add my printer on the HP Smart website to print?

No, but by signing up on the HP Smart website (formerly HP Connected) , you have access to additional features. You can customize your printer's email address, manage who can print to your printer, and set HP ePrint printing preferences. Also, HP Instant Ink and Print Anywhere become available, depending on your printer model.

Can I change print settings for an HP ePrint job?

By default, ePrint uses the following print settings.

Print quality: Normal
Print color: Full color
Paper size for emails: Letter or A4
Paper size for image attachments: 101.6 x 152.4 mm (4 x 6 in)
Number of prints: 1
Paper orientation: Identical to the original document
1-sided printing

For eligible printers, additional preferences are available when you add your printer on the HP Smart website. Go to Setting Up an Account on the HP Smart Website for steps to set up the account. Once added, click My Printers to change the settings.

Print in color or monochrome
Select plain or photo paper
Enable 2-sided (duplex) printing

Who can send HP ePrint jobs to my printer?

Anyone who knows your printer's email address can print to your web-enabled printer. You can block others from sending HP ePrint jobs to your printer or manage allowed senders with an HP Smart (formerly HP Connected) account. Go to Setting Up an Account on the HP Smart Website for more information.

What can I print using HP ePrint?

You can print emails and attached documents or photos. Review the HP ePrint email and print job requirements for best results.

Print text (.txt), PDF, HTML, Microsoft Word (.doc and .docx), Microsoft PowerPoint (.ppt and .pptx), Microsoft Excel (.xls and .xlsx) document file types. OpenOffice files are not supported by HP ePrint.
Print bitmap (.bmp), graphics interchange format (.gif), joint photographic experts group (.jpg and .jpeg), portable network graphics (.png), and tagged image file format (.tiff) photo file types.
When you print email attachments, the email body also prints.
Attach less than 10 attachments per email print job.
The total size of the email must be less than 10 MB, including attachments.
Digitally signed, encrypted, or password protected documents are not supported by HP ePrint.

How do I change my printer’s email address?

To change your HP ePrint email address, you need to add your printer to the HP Smart website (formerly HP Connected). Go to Setting Up an Account on the HP Smart Website for more information.

Why does the info page list a customized printer email address?

If the info page lists a customized HP ePrint email address, the printer is already added to an HP Smart account (Formerly HP Connected).

If you purchased or were given a previously owned printer and the previous owner did not remove Web Services from the printer, the printer might still be associated with the previous owner's account. To remove the printer from the previous HP Smart account, turn off Web Services, and then turn on Web Services. After you turn on Web Services, an info page prints with a new printer code and a new printer email address. Use the new printer code to add the printer to your HP Smart account.
