HP PageWide 300, 400, 500 series - Use the Schedule On and Off feature

Introduction

The HP PageWide product has a Schedule On and Off feature, which is used to configure days of the week and times of day that the printer is automatically put into Standby mode (Schedule Off) or when the printer is put into a ready state (Schedule On).
If the printer has Schedule Off days and time configured, the printer will, at the scheduled time, go into Standby mode. When the printer is in this mode, it is not completely powered-off and can be woken-up by touching the control panel or sending a print job. This behavior is by design. Since HP PageWide printers can be deployed as a fleet, and remotely managed as a fleet, they cannot be completely powered-off unless you use the On/Off button. The printer uses very minimal power when it goes into Standby mode (<1W) but must be able to wake-up, for example, from an administrative command sent to it, for a print job coming through the wireless or wired network, or to receive an incoming FAX.
If a Schedule On time is configured, the printer will come to a ready state if it was previously powered-off using the On/Off button on the front of the device or if the device was in Standby mode. For the Schedule On feature to work, the device must be connected to a power source.

Configure Energy Save Settings

Using the Energy Save Settings minimizes the amount of power the printer uses when it is idle and reduces wear on electronic components.
There are two ways to configure the Energy Save Settings, as listed below. Click the option you would like to use to skip to the section in this document that contains the instructions for configuring the Energy Save Settings.

Option 1: Configure the Energy Save Settings from the printer control panel

Find your printer model in the table below, and then follow the steps provided to configure the Energy Save Settings from the control panel.

Option 2: Configure the Energy Save Settings using the Embedded Web Server (EWS)

Follow the steps below to configure the Energy Save Settings using the EWS.

Step one: Connect to the Embedded Web Server (EWS)

  1. From the Home screen on the printer control panel, touch the Network button to display the printer's IP address or host name.
  2. Open a Web browser, and in the address line, type the IP address or host name as it displays on the printer control panel. Press the Enter key on the computer keyboard. The EWS Home page opens.

    note:
If the Web browser displays a There is a problem with this website’s security certificate message when attempting to open the EWS, click Continue to this website (not recommended).
Choosing Continue to this website (not recommended) will not harm the computer while navigating within the EWS for the HP printer. If this error occurs outside of the HP printer’s EWS, the computer could be at risk.

    note:
To prevent unauthorized printer setting changes, administrators might want to add a password to limit access to the EWS. Click here to learn more.

Step two: Configure the Energy Save Settings

  1. Using the EWS top navigation menu, click Settings.
  2. In the left navigation pane, click Power Management and then click Energy Save Settings.
