HP Printers - Find Your Wireless WEP, WPA, WPA2 Password

This document is for HP wireless printers.

A wireless network password is often required to connect a printer or other type of wireless device to your wireless network.

note:
A PRINTER WPS PIN is not a WPA password. For more information about connecting a wireless printer, see Enter WPS PIN Prompt When Adding a Printer (Windows 10).

Find the password on the router

When you subscribe to an Internet service, your Internet Service Provider (ISP) provides you with a network password. Look for this password on your wireless router or in the original paperwork that came from your ISP. The password might be labeled Wireless Key, security password, WPA2 password, WEP key, or similar.

If you are unable to find your password, contact your ISP for assistance.

Find the password in Windows

View your password from any Windows computer that is already connected to your network.

Right-click the wireless network tray icon , and then select Open Network and Sharing Center.
Select Change Adapter Settings.
Right-click the name of your wireless network, and then click Status.
Click Wireless Properties.
Click the Security tab, and then select the Show characters check box to see the wireless network security key (your password).

If the password is blank, contact your Internet Service Provider (ISP) or IT support person that manages the router for assistance.

Find the password in macOS

You might be able to find the wireless network password from a computer that is connected to the wireless network. To view the network password on a Mac, choose a method to open the Keychain Access application, and then access Passwords.

Step 1: Open Keychain Access

Choose one of these methods to open Keychain Access.

note:
If you are unable to open Keychain Access using one method, try another method to open it.

Press and hold the command and shift keys
, and then press the U key to open Utilities. Then double-click Keychain Access.
Open Finder, click Go, click Utilities, and then double-click Keychain Access.
Open Spotlight, type the first few letters of Keychain Access into the search field, and then double-click Keychain Access in the results list.
Open Launchpad, and then double-click Keychain Access.

Step 2: Find the network password

Once Keychain Access is open, find the network password.

In the Keychains list, click Local Items.
In the Category list, click Passwords.
Double-click the wireless network name, then select the Show password check box.
If prompted, type your administrator password, and then click OK.

To automatically connect to this network in the future, click the Connect automatically check box.
In the Enter the network security key box, type the password.
Wait for the connection to establish.

How do I find the password from a college, hotel or other remote location?

Contact the manager or owner of the remote location to get the internet password for computers and phone connections. Printers do not work over these networks. A direct connection (Wi-Fi Direct link) must be used for printing.
