HP Printers - Setting Up an HP Connected Account

This document is for HP printers that support web-connected printing services on HP Connected.
HP Connected supports web-connected printing services, including HP ePrint cloud printing, HP Instant Ink delivery services, and HP Printer Apps. To find out if your country/region supports HP Connected, go to HP Connected, and then click on the country/region and language. In the drop-down menu, find your country/region and language.
Use this document to learn how to add a printer on HP Connected, and see the Frequently asked questions (FAQs) on using web-connected printing services.
If you registered with HP Connected during the initial printer setup, your printer might already be set up on the website. Go to HP Connected, sign in to your account, and then click the My Printers tab.
Step 1: Check HP Connected setup requirements
Before setting up your printer on HP Connected, make sure the printer supports web-connected printing services, and that the printer is connected to a network with an active Internet connection.
  note:
If your printer does not meet all of the following requirements, you cannot use HP Connected and web-connected printing services.
  • Confirm that your country/region is supported: Go to HP Connected, and then click on the country/region and language. In the drop-down menu, find your country/region and language.
If you do not find your country/region from the list, HP Connected is not supported in your country/region.
  • Confirm that your printer supports HP ePrint: Look for an HP ePrint logo, button, or icon on the printer control panel.

If your printer control panel does not have an HP ePrint icon or button, or you are unsure if your printer is supported, go to Mobile Printing Solutions Compatible with HP Printers to see if your printer supports HP ePrint.
  • Confirm that your computer is connected: Make sure the computer is connected to a wired (Ethernet) or wireless network with an active Internet connection.
  • Confirm that your printer is connected: Make sure the printer is connected to a wired (Ethernet) or wireless network with an active Internet connection.
      note:
If you connect your printer to a computer with a USB cable, web-connected printing services do not work.
    • If your printer is connected with a wired (Ethernet) connection, check the cable and the lights on the printer’s Ethernet port. The green link light should be steady, and the orange activity light should blink when the cable is connected.
    • If your printer is connected with a wireless connection, make sure the wireless feature is on and the printer is connected to the same network as your computer.
Some printers have a wireless icon and a blue light on the front of the printer. If the printer has a blue light, and the light is on and not blinking, your printer is connected to a wireless network.
Step 2: Turn on Web Services
Turning on Web Services allows your printer to communicate securely over the Internet with web-connected printing services, such as HP ePrint and HP Instant Ink, where available. Read the section that matches your printer control panel type for steps to turn on Web Services.
  note:
Web Services must be turned on and periodic firmware updates are required to use web-connected printing services.
Step 3: Obtain the printer claim code
After you turn on Web Services, wait for the printer to print the Make the Most of Your Printer or Important Printer Setup Instructions page. Occasionally there is a delay when printing the information page. If the page does not print after 5 to 10 minutes, turn off Web Services, and then turn on Web Services again, to obtain a new information page. The information page contains information about Web Services, and includes the printer claim code required to add your printer on HP Connected.
  note:
The printer claim code is valid for 24 hours. If the code expires, repeat these steps to get a new code.
Locate the printer claim code on the page, and then continue to the next step.
  • If the information page lists a string of numbers and letters, such as abc234vbn3434, that is the printer claim code.
  • If the information page lists an email, such as abc234vbn3434@hpeprint.com, the printer claim code is the number and characters before @hpeprint.com. For example, abc234vbn3434 would be the printer claim code.
  • If the information page lists your current HP ePrint email address, such as myeprint@hpeprint.com, your HP Connected account is already set up and linked to your printer. Skip to the step to Set up web-connected printing services.

If you do not receive a verification email within a few minutes, check your email's spam folder.
