HP Printers - Install and Connect an HP Printer (PCs, Tablets, and Smartphones)

Set up the wireless or wired printer connection to your computer or mobile device. Make sure the printer is turned on, ink cartridges are installed, and plain paper is loaded in the main tray when you start the setup.
  1. Review each setup and connection option for your HP printer.
    • USB cable to a Mac or Windows PC: Go to 123.hp.com and follow the instructions to install and set up the printer.
    • Wired network (Ethernet) cable to a Mac or Windows PC: Go to 123.hp.com and follow the instructions to install and set up the printer.
    • Wireless or USB connection to a Chromebook: Go to Printing from a Chromebook for steps to set up the printer.
    • Wireless connection to a Mac, Windows PC, or a mobile device: Continue with the following steps.
  2. Make sure your computer or mobile device is on the same local wireless network you are connecting the printer to.
  3. For smartphone or tablet setup, turn on Bluetooth on the device. Many HP printers use this signal to streamline initial setup.
  4. Place the printer close to the computer or mobile device and within range of the Wi-Fi router.
  5. Connect the printer to the local network.
    • Printers with a touchscreen control panel: Open the printer Setup, Network, or Wireless menu, and then select Restore Network Settings to clear any issues. Make sure the wireless signal is turned on, and then select Wireless Setup Wizard to connect the printer to your network.
      note:
If you need your network name (SSID) and password, go to Finding Your Wireless Password.
    • Printers without a touchscreen control panel: Press and hold the Wireless button for five seconds. For Tango printers, press the Wireless button and the Power button on the rear of the printer for five seconds. Within two minutes, press and hold the WPS button (Wi-Fi Protected Setup) on the router until the connection process begins. The Wireless light or blue bar on the printer stops flashing when the connection completes.
      note:
If your router does not have a WPS button, skip to the Frequently asked questions for steps to connect.
  6. Go to 123.hp.com and follow the instructions to install the software and set up the wireless connection to your computer, smartphone, or tablet.
