HP Color LaserJet Pro M252, M274, M277 Printers - Paper Jam Error

This document is for HP Color LaserJet Pro M252n, M252dw, MFP M274n, MFP M277n, and MFP M277dw printers.
When trying to print, one of the following Paper Jam error messages displays on the printer control panel.
  • Remove paper from document feeder. Press [OK] to clear message.
  • Jam in output bin. Open rear door and clear jam.
  • Check single sheet slot for jam or close tray 2.
  • Jam in print paper path. Open rear door and clear jam.
These errors indicate that paper might be stuck inside an area of your printer. View the video and read the steps to find out if paper is truly stuck in the printer, and then either clear the printer of the jammed paper or reset the printer if paper cannot be found.
note:
The following images in the video and steps might show a different printer, but the steps are the same.

Video overview

This video shows you how to fix a paper jam on the HP Color LaserJet Pro MFP M277dw printer.

Step 1: Look for jammed paper

Look at the error displayed on the control panel, and then use one of the following sections to find and clear any paper or media that might be stuck inside the printer.

Step 2: Reset the printer

Sometimes a paper jam error persists even though there is no jammed paper (false paper jam). Reset the printer, which might clear a false paper jam error, and then print a test page.
  1. With the printer turned on, disconnect the power cord from the printer.
  2. Unplug the power cord from the power source.
  3. Wait 60 seconds.
  4. Reconnect the power cord to a wall outlet and to the printer.
    note:
HP recommends plugging the printer directly into a wall outlet.

Step 3: Try to print again

Try to print again to make sure that the hardware functions correctly. If the problem persist, continue to the next section.

Step 4: Service the printer

Service or replace your HP product if the issue persists after completing all the preceding steps.
Go to Contact HP Customer Support to schedule a product repair or replacement. If you are in Asia Pacific, you will be directed to a local service center in your area.
To confirm your warranty status, go to HP Product Warranty Check. Repair fees might apply for out-of-warranty products.
