Learn how to use the print driver in Windows to change the print settings for the print-job.
Priority for changing print-job settings
Changes to print settings are prioritized depending on where the changes are made.
The names of commands and dialog boxes might vary depending on your Windows version or Office applications (Microsoft Word, for example).

Page Setup dialog box: Click Page Setup or a similar command on the File or Page Layout menu of the application you are working in to open this dialog box. Settings changed here override settings changed anywhere else.

Print dialog box: Click Print, Print Setup, or a similar command on the File menu of the application you are working in to open this dialog box. Settings changed in the Print dialog box have a lower priority and usually do not override changes made in the Page Setup dialog box.

Printer Properties or Preferences dialog box (print driver): Click Printer Properties or Preferences in the Print dialog box to open the print driver. Settings changed in the Printer Properties or Preferences dialog box usually do not override settings anywhere else in the printing application. You can change most of the print settings here.

Default print driver settings: The default print driver settings determine the settings used in all print jobs, unless settings are changed in the Page Setup, Print, or Printer Properties or Preferences dialog boxes.

Printer control-panel settings: Settings changed at the printer control panel have a lower priority than changes made anywhere else.
Change the settings for all print jobs until the application is closed
This procedure is the most commonly used for changing print-job settings.
The steps can vary, depending on the Office applications or app (Microsoft Word, for example).

From the Office app, select the Print option.

Select the printer, and then click Printer Properties or Preferences.

Select the desired print settings, and then click OK to close the printer settings or properties dialog box.

In the Print dialog box, click OK or Print to print the job.
Change the default settings for all print jobs
Learn how to modify the default print settings that apply to all print jobs. For example, you might want to set the default to two-sided printing.
Follow these steps to change the default settings:

From the Windows start menu, select your printer:

Windows 11: Select the Windows icon on the center of the taskbar, click Settings, and then click Bluetooth & devices from the left pane. Select Printers & scanners, and then select your printer from the list.

Windows 10: Right-click the Windows icon in the lower-left corner of the screen, click Settings, and then click Devices. In the left pane, click Printers & scanners. Select your printer in the Printers & scanners list.

Windows 8 and 8.1: Right-click in the lower-left corner of the screen to display the menu. Click Control Panel, and then click Devices and Printers..

Windows 7: Click the Windows icon in the lower-left corner of the screen, and then click Devices and Printers.

Select Printing preferences or Printing Preferences.

Windows 11: In the Printer settings list, click Printing preferences.

Windows 10: Click Manage, and then select Printing preferences.

Change the print settings, and then click OK.
Change the printer configuration settings
You can change configuration properties in the printer driver, such as tray configuration, sharing, ports, security, availability, spooling, etc. For example, you might want to designate a paper type for a particular tray.
