HP LaserJet Tank 1020, 1500, 2500 printers - First-time printer setup

To set up your printer for the first time, remove the printer from the box, connect the power cord, load paper, and then install the printer software.

Note:

If you are looking for the printer software, go to 123.hp.com.

Remove the printer from the box

Remove the printer from the box, and then remove all tape, stickers, and packing materials.

CAUTION:

To avoid setup problems and potential printer damage, remove all internal packaging material, close all doors, and reinsert all trays before turning on the printer.

  1. Remove the printer and power cord from the box.

  2. Remove all tape from the outside of the printer.

  3. Recycle all packing material.

Connect the power cord

Connect the power cord, and then turn on the printer.

  1. Connect the power cord to the rear of the printer, and then the other end into a power outlet.

    Note:

    Do not connect a USB cable at this time. The connection to the computer is established during the software installation.

  2. Press the Power button .

Load paper

Load paper in the input tray.

  1. Lower the input tray.

  2. Slide the paper-width guides to the edges of the input tray.

  3. Load a stack of plain white paper with the print-side facing down into the input tray.

  4. Slide the paper-width guides in until they rest against the stack of paper.

  5. Slide the input tray cover into place and pull out the output tray extender.

Connect an Ethernet cable (Ethernet printers only)

If you want to connect your printer to your network using an Ethernet cable, remove any protective cover from the Ethernet port of your printer, and then connect the cable to the printer and an available port.

  1. Remove any plug or protective cover from the Ethernet port on the rear of the printer.

  2. Connect an Ethernet cable to the printer and an available port.

When connected to a network, the Ethernet icon displays on the control panel menu.

Add the printer to HP Smart

The HP Smart app is required and helps connect your device to your printer. It also guides you through the rest of the setup process.

  1. Go to 123.hp.com to download and install the software.

  2. Open the app, and then touch Add a New printer or touch the plus sign to find your printer.

  3. Follow the prompts in HP Smart to connect the printer to your network and device.
