Wireless light blinks

The Wireless light blinks, and the Wireless icons are on or blinking. This indicates the printer is open to receive a connection through Wireless Setup Mode or Wi-Fi Direct. Once connected, the light is on and solid.

Perform the following tasks in the order given. Use the printer after each task to see if the issue is resolved.

Wait for the printer to establish a connection

The Wireless light blinks when the printer is attempting to connect to the wireless router or access point. Wait a few minutes, and then check the light again.

Troubleshoot the wireless printer connection

Check network issues and setup requirements if the printer is not found during software installs or when wireless print jobs fail.

Poor network connection: Move the printer and computer or mobile device closer to the wireless router, and then check if the signal quality improved. Try opening a website to see if the internet connection is working properly. If Wi-Fi is slow or intermittent, restart the router by disconnecting the power cord, waiting 15 seconds, and then reconnecting the cord.
Printer is off or in sleep mode: Touch the control panel or press the Power button to wake the printer and put it in a ready state. Sometimes the printer status might display Offline when it is actually ready.
Check the printer connection status: Make sure the wireless signal is on, and the printer is connected to the same network as your computer or mobile device. If your printer has a light next to a Wireless icon or button , make sure the light is on. If it is off or blinks, the printer is disconnected from the network.
Reconnect the printer to the network: Place the printer within range of the Wi-Fi router signal, and then connect it to the network.
- Printers with a touchscreen control panel: Open the Setup, Network, or Wireless settings menu, select Wireless Setup Wizard, and then follow the instructions to select the network name and enter the password.
- Printers without a touchscreen control panel: Press and hold the Wireless button for five seconds or until the wireless light starts to flash. Within two minutes, press and hold the WPS (Wi-Fi Protected Setup) button on the router until the connection process begins. The printer Wireless light stops flashing when the connection completes.
- HP Deskjet 6000 and 6400, ENVY 6000 and 6400, and Tango printers: Press and hold the Wi-Fi button and the Power button on the back of the printer for five seconds until the blue bar flashes. Within two minutes, press and hold the WPS button on the router until the connection process begins. The blue bar stops flashing when the connection completes.
Restart devices: Restart the printer and the computer or mobile device to clear possible error conditions.
Print a Wireless Test Report: Search the HP Customer Support website for your printer model, and then search for self test page to find the document on how to print and evaluate the report.
Enable Bluetooth for an HP Smart app setup: Enable Bluetooth on your computer or mobile device so that HP Smart can detect the printer during the setup.
Wireless isolation could be causing your printer to appear offline. Check with your router manufacturer for more information.

Connect the printer to your network

Reset the wireless settings on the printer, and then connect to the local Wi-Fi network.

Web Services light blinks white

This condition occurs when Web Services is on, but the printer is not connected to the Web Services server. Use the printer Embedded Web Server (EWS) to enable Web Services, and then set up automatic updates. Periodic printer updates are required to use Web Services.

Load plain white paper in the paper input tray.
On the printer control panel, press the Wireless and Information buttons at the same time.

A Network Configuration Page prints.
Find the IP address on the page.
Type the IP address into an internet browser address bar, and then press Enter on the keyboard.
On the Home tab, click Web Services.
Under the Web Services Settings section, click Setup, and then click Continue.
Check the boxes to accept the terms and enable Web Services, and then click Next.

The printer searches for updates, and then automatically prints a Web Services Information Page.

Web Services light blinks amber

This error occurs when a Web Services print job is blocked, or when HP Instant Ink is cancelled and a software message has not been acknowledged.

If both the Web Services light and the HP Instant Ink icon blink and the HP Instant Ink Service has been recently cancelled, press the Information button twice to resume printing.
If only the Web Services light blinks, an HP ePrint email print job has been blocked.

Paper Error icon and the Resume light are on

There is no paper in the input tray. Load plain white paper into the input tray.

Raise the input tray and input tray extender.
Pull back the input tray shield, and then slide out the paper width guide.
Load a stack of paper into the input tray, and then release the shield.
Pull back the input tray shield, slide in the paper width guide until it rests on the edge of the stack, and then release the shield.

Ink level icons blink with no segment, and the Ink Alert light is on

This condition occurs when there is an issue with an ink cartridge.

If the Resume light is also blinking, the ink levels are low or the ink cartridge is incompatible.
If the Resume light is not blinking, the cartridge might be incompatible or faulty.

Make sure your ink cartridges are compatible with your printer and there is adequate ink in the cartridges. If the issue persists, go to HP inkjet printers - Ink cartridge errors.

E1 or E2 error

An E1 or E2 error with a blinking Resume light indicates that the paper size setting does not match the paper size that is loaded.

Load the correct size paper or change the print settings, and then press the Resume button on the printer control panel. For more information, go to HP Printers - Paper Mismatch error (Windows, Mac).

E3 or E4 error

An E3 error with a Paper Error icon, Resume light and Ink Alert light or an E4 error with a Paper Error icon and Resume light blinking indicate a carriage or paper jam.

Find and clear the paper jam. If you cannot find any jammed paper, reset the printer.

If the issue persists, go to HP printers - Carriage jam or E3 error or HP DeskJet 3700 Printers - 'E4' Error (Paper Jam).

E5 error

An E5 error with all lights on the control panel blinking indicates the scanner is not working as expected.

Note:

You can still print while this error displays.

Reset the printer

Reset the printer to recover from printer errors or failures.

If your printer has a rechargeable battery, remove it.
Press the power button to turn off the printer. If the printer does not turn off, disconnect the power cord from the printer.
Unplug the power cord from the power source.
Wait 60 seconds.
Connect the power cord directly to a wall outlet and to the printer.
Turn on the printer to complete the reset.

Service the printer

Service or replace your HP product if the issue persists after completing all the preceding steps.

Go to Contact HP Customer Support to schedule a product repair or replacement. If you are in Asia Pacific, you will be directed to a local service center in your area.

E6 error

An E6 error with the Paper Error icon and Resume and Ink Alert lights blinking indicates the printer is in an error state.

Reset the printer

Reset the printer to recover from printer errors or failures.

If your printer has a rechargeable battery, remove it.
Press the power button to turn off the printer. If the printer does not turn off, disconnect the power cord from the printer.
Unplug the power cord from the power source.
Wait 60 seconds.
Connect the power cord directly to a wall outlet and to the printer.
Turn on the printer to complete the reset.

Service the printer
