Check if your HP printer is supported on a computer or tablet with the Windows 11 operating system and then download the driver or software for your printer.

How to use this document

The following steps will help you navigate this document:

To find out if your printer is supported on a computer or tablet with the Windows 11 operating system, go to the Find your printer section in this document, and from there, expand the section for your printer type and look for your specific printer model in the list.
- If your printer model is not listed in this document, then it does not have driver support in Windows 11.
- If your printer is listed in this document, then it is supported in Windows 11.
For instructions to download the driver for your printer, go to the Download software and drivers section in this document and choose one of the options to download the driver.

Download software and drivers

Use one of the options below to download the software or driver for your printer.

Option one: HP Software and Driver Downloads page

Follow these steps to access the HP Software and Driver Downloads page for your printer and then select a driver (from the available options) and download and install it on your Windows 11 computer or tablet:
1. Go to HP Software and Driver Downloads, and then click Printer.
2. Enter your printer name in the text field and click Submit.
  
  The "Software and drivers" page for your printer model will open.
3. Expand the sections for the different driver types to view the driver and software options that are available and choose the driver that you want to download.
4. Click Download next to the name of the driver, and then follow the on-screen prompts to download and install the driver.
Option two: HP Smart app

Follow these steps to download and install the driver using the HP Smart app:

Note:
The HP Smart app is not available for all printers. If the HP Smart app does not detect your printer, use Option one to download the driver or software from the HP Software and Driver Downloads page.
1. Go to HP Smart, and then enter your printer name in the text field.
  - If your printer is detected by the app, the printer model will display in the drop-down list.
  - If your printer is not detected, use Option one (above) to download and install the driver.
2. Click your printer model in the drop-down list, and then click Next.
3. Follow the on-screen prompts and instructions to download and install the driver.

Driver and software types

Learn about the different driver and software types.

HP Smart (recommended, when available): Provides software and drivers that offer full printing solutions. Install the HP Smart app to set up your printer, manage printer settings, and troubleshoot printer issues. After setup, you can use the HP Smart software on other devices to print, copy and scan, print remotely, and more.
HP Easy Start: A utility that automatically detects the printer and guides you through the installation process. The utility provides full feature or basic driver options for download.
Full solution: "HP Full feature driver" or "HP Full software and drivers" offer a complete solution including full printer software functionality and the most advanced features available for the printer, and does not require additional HP software. The Full solution is typically installed automatically using HP Easy Start.
Basic: Basic drivers are typically PCL6 drivers compatible with Windows 11 (64-bit only) that use the printer's resources (internal processor and memory) to process print commands. It is a custom driver created for select printers that support PCL 6. Should not be confused with the UPD PCL 6.
PCL (no installer): PCL6, PCL 6, PCL-6, PCL 6 v3, PCL-6 v4, or PCLm driver with no installer. For a network installation with this driver, use the TCP/IP option.
PCL: PCL6, PCL 6, PCL-6, PCL 6 v3, PCL-6 v4, or PCLm driver with installer.
HP Universal Print Driver (UPD): HP Universal Print Drivers for Windows were created to facilitate and simplify printer installations in managed (IT) business environments by providing a single, distributable printer driver that can be used with multiple printer models.

For Windows users that want a driver without extra software or without an installer, the HP Universal Print Driver is recommended. Can be installed via USB or network, but is typically installed via network. Available from the printer's hp.com or from hp.com/go/upd.
In-Operating System (in-OS): Basic, print-only (no scan) driver included in the Windows 11 operating system (OS) to provide limited print software features. Some of the advanced features may not be available. For some printers, these are the only driver options available.

Best used when unable to connect to the internet or when no other solution is available. In the case of All-in-One printers, this is considered a better choice than UPD.
