A 'Your HP or HP+ printer can't be claimed here' error displays

After entering the printer claim code on the HP Smart website, a Your HP/HP+ printer can't be claimed here error displays and you are unable to finish the printer setup.


A claim code is required to connect the printer to Web services.

The following printers do not support manually entering a claim code into the HP Smart website.

HP+ Printers

  • HP Deskjet 2710e, 2720e, 2721e, 2722e, 2723e, 2752e, 2755e

  • HP Deskjet 4110e, 4120e, 4121e, 4122e, 4123e, 4130e, 4132e, 4152e, 4155e, 4158e

Claim the printer

Claim the printer using the HP Smart app or HP Easy Start.

Restore factory defaults on your HP printer

Reset the printer to remove all previous printer settings and preferences.

  1. On your computer or mobile device, open the Embedded Web Server (EWS).

    • HP Smart app: Open the printer settings, and then locate and select Advanced Settings. Click Tools or Web Services to open the EWS. If Advanced Settings is not available, print a Network Configuration or Printer Information page.

    • Print a Network Configuration page or Printer Information page: Press the Information button on the control panel to print the page. Take note of the IP Address on the printout. On a computer or mobile device, type the IP address into a web browser address bar, and then press Enter to open the EWS.

  2. If prompted, enter the printer administrator password or the PIN from the printer label.

  3. On the EWS, click the Settings or System tab.

  4. Click Restore Defaults or Services, and then Restore Factory Defaults.

  5. Click the Restore Factory Defaults button.

Set up and claim your printer

Set up and claim your printer again.

  1. Disconnect any USB cables from the printer.

  2. Go to 123.hp.com and download the recommended print driver.

  3. Follow the instructions to set up and claim your printer.
