HP DesignJet T7x00, Z6xx0 and D5800 - Instructions on how to perform a Firmware Upgrade

Introduction

The printer's various functions are controlled by software that resides in the printer, also known as firmware. From time to time, firmware updates from HP become available. These updates increase the printer's functionality and enhance its features. Firmware updates can be downloaded from the Internet and installed in your printer in the following ways, use the method that you find most convenient.
There are different options to upgrade the firmware of your printer:

Option 1 - Firmware Update using the Embedded Web Server

  1. Access the printer’s Embedded Web Server by typing the printer’s IP into your web browser. On a printer with an internet connection the IP address can be checked on the Front Panel of the printer.
  2. Download the firmware file from:
  3. Through the printer's Embedded Web Server, click the Setup tab and then select Firmware update.
  4. Then press Choose File from the Embedded Web Server page, select the downloaded file and click Update

Option 2 - Automatic Firmware Update using the Embedded Web Server

Download and install HP DesignJet Utility from here.
For Windows:
  1. Open HP DesignJet Utility.
  2. Select your printer from the Devices tab on the left-hand side.
  3. Click the Admin tab, and then select Launch Firmware Update.
  4. The printer’s Embedded Web Server will open in the browser. Press Choose file and select the Firmware file you have downloaded from hp.com.
  5. Click Update.
For Mac OS:
If you experience very slow progress while uploading the firmware file to the printer, the reason could be that you are using a proxy server. In that case, try bypassing the proxy server and accessing the Embedded Web Server directly.
For Internet Explorer 6 for Windows
  • Go to Tools > Internet Options > Connections > LAN Settings, and select the Bypass proxy server for local addresses check box. Alternatively, for more precise control, click the Advanced button and add the printer's IP address to the list of exceptions, for which the proxy server is not used.
For Safari for Mac OS
  • Go to Safari > Preferences > Advanced and click the Proxies: Change Settings button. Add the printer's IP address or its domain name to the list of exceptions, for which the proxy server is not used.
