Introduction

The printer's various functions are controlled by software that resides in the printer, also known as firmware. From time to time, firmware updates from HP become available. These updates increase the printer's functionality and enhance its features. Firmware updates can be downloaded from the Internet and installed in your printer in the following ways, use the method that you find most convenient:

Option 1 - Automatic Firmware Update from printer’s Front Panel

(Web Services must be enabled, and Internet connection is required)
  1. Select Main Menu > Settings > System > Firmware update > Check the Automatic box.

Option 2 - Automatic Firmware Update using the Embedded Web Server

(Web Services must be enabled, and Internet connection is required)
  1. Type the Printer IP in any web browser to open the printer’s Embedded Web Server.
  2. Select About printer tab > Firmware update.
  3. Press Check now to check whether new firmware is available.
  4. If new firmware is available, information about the new firmware is displayed and you will be given the option to download and install it

Option 3 - Manual Firmware Update using a USB drive

  1. Download the firmware file from:
  2. Copy the downloaded firmware file to an empty USB device previously formatted in FAT 32.
  3. Plug the USB device into the USB port in the Front Panel.
  4. A firmware update assistant will appear on the Front Panel to guide you through the update process.

Option 4 - Manual Firmware Update using the Embedded Web Server

  1. Download the firmware file using the links from Option 3.
  2. Type the Printer IP in any web browser to open the printer’s Embedded Web Server.
  3. Select About printer tab > Manual Firmware update.
  4. Browse and select the latest firmware file that was downloaded.
  5. Click Update.
  6. The firmware update process will start automatically.

Option 5 - Manual Firmware Update using the HP DesignJet Utility

Windows:
  1. Download the firmware file using the links from Option 3.
  2. Open the HP DesignJet Utility.
  3. Go to the Admin tab.
  4. Select Launch Firmware update. The Embedded Web Server will be opened, follow the steps in options 2 or 4.
