HP LaserJet Pro - Installing the printer software in Windows on a wireless network

Use the instructions in this document to install the printer software in Windows for a wireless network connection.
The HP printer must be set up before you install the printer software. If you have not already set up the printer, follow the instructions for setting up your printer hardware.
note:
If you plan to install the HP Universal Print Driver (UPD) for Windows, go to www.hp.com/go/upd. The UPD is designed to easily manage print environments with multiple printers on a network. The HP UPD is a good choice for a print-only printer because this driver provides ONLY print capability.

Windows® installation for a wireless network connection

Follow these steps to prepare your printer for a wireless connection and install the software.
IMPORTANT: If your printer is connected to a wired network with an Ethernet cable, disconnect it now.

Step one: Prepare the printer for wireless connection

Before installing the software, you must prepare your printer for a wireless connection.
note:
The steps vary according to the type of control panel.

Find your printer type in the options listed below and then follow the steps to prepare your printer for a wireless connection.

Step two: Install the printer software

Follow these steps to install the printer software on your computer. To learn more about software sources, see the section, Learn about software sources - download or CD, at the beginning of this topic.
note:
If you plan to use the Windows® Add Printer Wizard to install a print driver only, skip the following steps and use the installation instructions provided for the driver on the Software and Drivers page.
note:
For printers with a 2-line LCD control panel, a USB cable may be needed temporarily to aid in associating the printer to the wireless network.
