HP LaserJet Enterprise, HP PageWide Enterprise - Installing a Printer Driver with an Ethernet Cable (Windows)

The HP printer must be set up before you install the printer software. If you have not already set up the printer, follow the instructions for setting up your printer hardware before installing the software.
note:
If you plan to install the HP Universal Print Driver (UPD) for Windows, go to www.hp.com/go/upd. The UPD is designed to easily manage print environments with multiple printers on a network. The HP UPD is a good choice for a print-only printer because this driver provides ONLY print capability.

Windows® installation for a wired (Ethernet) network connection

Follow these steps to connect your printer to the network and install the software.

Step one: Connect the printer to the wired network

note:
The steps vary according to the type of control panel:

  1. Connect the network cable to the printer and to the network. Wait a few minutes for the printer to acquire a network address.
  2. Use one of the following methods (depending on your firmware version and control-panel type) to locate the printer’s IP address:
    FutureSmart 3
    • Keypad control panels: View the control-panel display to see the IP address.
    • Touchscreen control panels: From the Home screen on the printer control panel, touch the Network button to display the IP address or host name.
    FutureSmart 4
    • Keypad control panels: From the Home screen on the printer control panel, press the Information button, then use the arrow keys to select the Ethernet menu. Press the OK button to open the menu and view the IP address or host name.
    • Touchscreen control panels: From the Home screen on the printer control panel, touch the Information icon, and then touch the Network icon to display the IP address or host name.
If an IP address is listed, the network connection has been established. If an IP address is not listed, wait a few more minutes and try again. Make note of the IP address for use during software installation. Example IP address: 192.168.0.1.

Step two: Install the printer software

Follow these steps to install the printer software on your computer. To learn more about software sources, see the section, Learn about software sources - download or CD, at the beginning of this topic.
note:
If you plan to use the Windows® Add Printer Wizard to install a print driver only, skip the following steps and use the installation instructions provided for the driver on the Software and Drivers page.
