HP Printers - Printer Prints Unwanted Advertisements (Spam)

This document is for wireless HP web-enabled printers.
Unwanted advertisements or print jobs print from your printer using unnecessary ink and paper. This can occur when your HP ePrint email address is available to anyone, your Wi-Fi network is not secure, or the security feature on Wi-Fi Direct is turned off.
If you do not use HP ePrint, but you are receiving unwanted print jobs, skip to the Secure the Wi-Fi Network step.

Step 1: Manage who can send HP ePrint jobs

Manage who can send print jobs using your HP ePrint email address from your HP Smart account (formerly HP Connected). By default, anyone who knows your printer email address can send print jobs.
  1. Sign in to HP Smart.
If you have not set up an HP account, go to Setting Up an Account on the HP Smart Website.
  2. Select your printer, if necessary.
  3. Scroll down to ePrint Access, and then click ePrint Access, if necessary.
  4. Select Allowed.
    Selecting Allowed
  5. Type the email address you want to add, and then click Add.
    Clicking Add
If the issue persists, continue to the next step.

Step 2: Change your HP ePrint email address

Change your HP ePrint email address to help protect it from being used to send unwanted print jobs.
  1. From your HP account, scroll down to the ePrint settings, and then click ePrint Address, if necessary.
  2. Type the email address you want use, and then click Submit.
Clicking Submit to change an HP ePrint email address
  3. If the address is not available, type a different address, and then click Submit.
For more information, go to Change Your HP ePrint Email Address.
If the issue persists, continue to the next step.

Step 3: Secure the Wi-Fi network

Set up or change the Wi-Fi network password to secure who can access it and prevent unwanted print jobs.
  1. Open a web browser.
  2. Type the router IP address in the browser address bar, and then press Enter.
    note:
The IP addresses, names, and passwords in the table below are provided for informational purposes only and might not work with your router model. If this information does not allow you to log in to your router's setup page, refer to the documentation that came with your router or contact the manufacturer.

Step 4: Secure the Wi-Fi Direct or HP Wireless Direct feature

Turn on the security feature for Wi-Fi Direct or HP Wireless Direct to prevent unwanted print jobs.
  1. From the printer control panel, press the Wi-Fi Direct or HP wireless direct icon or button .
