HP Deskjet 3520, 3525 Printers - Wireless Printer Setup (OS X)

This document is for HP Deskjet 3520, 3521, 3522, 3524, 3526, and Deskjet Ink Advantage 3525 e-All-in-One printers and for computers with OS X.
To set up an HP printer on a wireless (Wi-Fi) network, restore the printer wireless settings to the factory defaults, install the print driver and software, and then set up the wireless connection.

This video shows you how to install a wireless HP printer in macOS.

Step 1: Prepare for installation

Before setting up the printer on your wireless network, gather the required items, and then check the printer and computer connections.
  1. Gather the following items:
    • Network name: The network name is the SSID.
    • Network password (WEP key or WPA security passphrase)
    • A computer connected to your wireless network
    • Internet access: HP recommends broadband Internet access such as cable or DSL.
    • Your wireless-capable printer: Place your printer close to the computer during the installation.
  2. Make sure the printer, router, and computer are all turned on, and that the computer is connected to the same wireless network to which you are connecting the printer.
  3. Disconnect any USB or Ethernet cables from the printer.

Step 2: Restore printer wireless settings to factory defaults

To clear any existing wireless settings, restore the printer to the factory default settings.
  1. On the printer control panel, press the Wireless button.
    The Wireless status screen displays.
  2. Press the button next to Settings.
  3. Press the down arrow to scroll down and select Restore Defaults, and then press OK.
  4. Press OK to confirm that you want to restore the network settings to factory defaults.
  5. When the Wireless menu displays, make sure the blue light next to the Wireless icon is blinking, and then press cancel to return to the control panel main screen.

Step 3: Download and install the driver

Complete the wireless network connection through the HP software installation.
Older HP software is not compatible with El Capitan, Yosemite, or Mavericks. Do not install software that supports earlier versions of the Mac operating system on a Mac with El Capitan, Yosemite, or Mavericks.
  1. Go to 123.hp.com.
  2. Type your printer model in the Enter your device's model number to begin box.
  3. Select your printer from the drop-down menu, and then click Begin.
  4. Click Download.
  5. When the download is complete, click the file named xxxx.dmg in the browser downloads bar or in the downloads folder on the Mac to access the installer.

  6. In the installer window, double click HP Inkjet SW OSX.

  7. Follow the on-screen instructions to complete the installation.
  8. When prompted, close the installation software.
Continue to the next step to configure the wireless connection.

Step 4: Set up the wireless connection

Use the HP Utility software to configure the wireless connection.
  1. After you close the installation software, wait for the HP Utility software to open.
  2. In the HP Utility Setup window, select the name of your printer, and then click Continue.
  3. Make sure your network is listed on the screen, click Yes, keep these settings, and then click Continue.
    If a different network than yours displays, choose your network, and then click Continue.
  4. On the HP Utility wants to access key "HP's Wi-Fi Network" in your keychain window, click Allow.
  5. When the Configuration Results screen displays, click Continue.
  6. Click Add Printer.
    The Add window displays.
  7. Click the name of your printer.
    Make sure you select the printer that has Bonjour listed under Kind.
  8. Click the Use or Print Using menu, and then select the name of your printer in the drop-down menu.

  9. Click Add to add the printer to the list.
  10. In the installer Add Printer window, click Continue.
  11. Follow the on-screen instructions to complete the printer setup, and then click Done.
