HP JetAdvantage On Demand - Configure and Activate the HP Universal USB Proximity Card Reader X3D03A

Introduction

This document provides instructions for administrators on how to set up and activate the HP Universal USB Proximity Card Reader X3D03A to use with the HP JetAdvantage On Demand solutions. This card reader is compatible with HP LaserJet Enterprise or HP Officejet Enterprise, or HP PageWide Enterprise printers and Multifunction Printers (MFPs) with touch screen displays.

note:
HP Universal USB Proximity Card Reader X3D03A can only be configured by a user who has administrative rights in the HP JetAdvantage On Demand company account.

Before you start

Before configuring the card reader X3D03A and activating the proximity card, preview the following requirements:
  • Update the printer firmware with FutureSmart version 3.2.2 or later to enable HP JetAdvantage On Demand compatibility and to enable the latest features.
    To update the firmware, go to www.hp.com/go/FutureSmart, and then click Upgrade now. Find your printer model in the table list, and then click the link to download the firmware.
  • Confirm you have an ADMIN account role for HP JetAdvantage On Demand.
    To check your account role on the HP JetAdvantage On Demand portal, click the down arrow located to the right of your email address, and then select My Profile. Make sure the Roles display Company Admin on the My Profile page.

  • Enable the HP JetAdvantage (or “More Apps”) app on an HP LaserJet Enterprise or HP Officejet Enterprise, or HP PageWide Enterprise printer or MFP.
    For instructions on installing the HP JetAdvantage On Demand app, go to Install HP JetAdvantage On Demand as a company administrator and see the Install HP JetAdvantage On Demand apps section.
  • Install the card reader in the printer’s Hardware Integration Pocket (HIP) or to the printer’s USB accessory port using the USB cable (included with the card reader), and then restart the printer.
note:
After installing your card reader to the printer and restarting the printer, if the control panel displays the following message “Attached USB device will not be used because no current functionality supports it.”, touch the OK button to continue.

Proximity card requirements

Access cards or RFID stickers must be configured to use one of the following supported protocols and frequencies:
  • HID Prox (125kHz)
  • ISO14443A CSN = MIFARE CSN (13.56 MHz)
  • ISO 15693A CSN (13.56 MHz)
  • HID iClass CSN (13.56 MHz)
note:
Supported cards or RFID stickers can be purchased online from various sources.

Set up and activate the HP Universal USB Proximity Card Reader

Step one: Configure the card reader

Follow these steps to configure the HP Universal USB Proximity Card Reader on an HP printer or MFP:
  1. From the Home screen of the printer’s control panel, touch the HP JetAdvantage menu button to initiate the card reader software configuration.

  2. Select a user name from the list of users. If your name is not listed in the user list, select Different User, and type in your user name.

  3. Type your password or PIN (if the user account was previously enabled to use a PIN), and then touch Sign in.

  4. Touch the Set up card reader X3D03A icon to initiate the reader configuration.
    note:
    Make sure not to touch the card to the card reader when configuration is in process.

    The control panel will display the card reader’s configuration in process status. This process completes in a few seconds.
    note:
    If an administrator user name and password is set using the Embedded Web Server (EWS) for an HP printer or MFP, you will be prompted to type those credentials on the screen.

  5. Touch Continue when the control panel screen displays “Success! Your card reader has been configured.”.

Step two: Activate the proximity card

note:
For each printer that you use, be sure to activate your proximity card.
Follow these steps to activate the proximity cards:
  1. From the Home screen of the printer’s control panel, touch the HP JetAdvantage menu button.

  2. Select a user name from the list of users. If your name is not listed in the user list, select Different User, and type in your user name.

  3. Type your password or PIN (if the user account was previously enabled to use a PIN).
  4. Select the Activate card check box, and then touch Sign in.

  5. Touch and hold your card to the card reader until you hear two confirmation beep sounds from the reader.

    The control panel will display the activating status of the card.
  6. Touch Continue when the control panel screen displays “Success! Card Activated”.

    Activation is completed when the Private Print icon displays.
