HP PCs - Using CyberLink Power2Go to Create, Burn, and Copy Discs (Windows 8)

This document applies to HP desktop and notebook computers with CyberLink Power2Go and Windows 8.
Use Power2Go to create, burn, and copy discs containing data, music, and videos.
Use the steps in this document to perform the tasks available in CyberLink Power2Go 8.
note:
This document provides basic instructions for using CyberLink Power2Go. For more detailed information, use the CyberLink Power2Go application help. To access Power2Go Help, click the Help icon.

Opening Power2Go

To open Power2Go, complete the following steps:
  1. At the Start screen, type CyberLink Power2Go to open the Search charm.
  2. Click CyberLink Power2Go from the list of results.

  3. Power2Go opens and displays the main menu.

Setting Preferences

CyberLink Power2Go offers a number of preferences to modify app performance. Preferences should be set the first time CyberLink Power2Go is opened. The settings are saved in CyberLink Power2Go until modified.
To set or modify preferences, click on the Preferences icon in the upper right corner of the main menu.
The Preferences window opens to the General tab.

Use the tabs in the Preferences window to set CyberLink Power2oGo preferences.
General tab:
  • Set the Temporary directory to define a working directory where CyberLink Power2Go saves temporary files while burning.
  • Select the Print disc label after burning option to automatically open the CyberLink LabelPrint app once the disc burning is complete.
  • Use Reset all "Do not ask me this question next time" to reset the preference setting for the reminder dialogs. Click the Reset button to reset the reminders.
  • Select Run desktop burning gadget at Windows startup to configure CyberLink Power2Go desktop burning gadget to run on startup. For details on how to complete the set-up of this feature, click here. This is a one-time procedure that does not need to be set for each project.

  • Select Auto detection to enable CyberLink Power2Go to automatically detect a disc's capacity.
  • Check Customize CD-R/RW capacity and then enter the new size in the Minutes entry box to manually enter a disc's capacity.

  • Select Use system default language to display the language that is the same as the computer operating system default language.
  • Select User defined, and then select a language from the drop-down list to use a language other than the computer operating system default language.

Creating a Data Disc

Use Power2Go to burn data files to a disc. The disc can be used by other computers capable of reading the same disc and data types.
To create a data disc, complete the following steps:
  1. Insert a blank, recordable disc in the CD/DVD or Blu-ray drive.
  2. Open Power2Go.
  3. Select Data Disc from the main menu.

  4. Select the type of disc to create by clicking on CD, DVD, or Blu-ray Disc.
    note:
    Some disc types may not be available if the computer's CD/DVD or Blu-ray drive does not support them.
    The Workspace window opens.

    3. Add files icon
    4. Burn now button
  5. In the media pane, highlight the files or folders to be burned to disc.
  6. Drag the highlighted files to the disc content pane, or click the Add files icon.
  7. When all files are added to the disc content pane, click the Burn now button.
  8. The Settings/Information window opens to set configuration options for the current project. Set the configuration options using the Settings/Information tabs. For details on how to use the Settings/Information tabs, click here.
  9. Click Burn.
    Power2Go burns the disc.

Creating a secured data disc

Burn a disc with password control to prevent confidential data from being accessed without a password. File names can also be encrypted to ensure better security and privacy.
To create a secured data disc, complete the following steps:
  1. Insert a blank, recordable disc in the CD/DVD or Blu-ray drive.
  2. Open Power2Go.
  3. Select Data Disc from the main menu.

  4. The Data Disc window displays.
  5. Select the type of disc to create by clicking on CD, DVD, or Blu-ray Disc.
    note:
    Some disc types may not be available if the computer CD/DVD or Blu-ray drive does not support them.
    The Workspace window opens.

  6. In the Workspace window, click the Secured Data Disc icon.
    The Password window displays.

  7. In the Enter a Password for Your Secured Files window, click a radio button to select the Security Level.
  8. Enter a password for the secured data disc in the Password box. Then type the same password in the Confirm password box. If desired, enter a password reminder in the Password reminder box.
  9. Click the check box for Hide the file names in a secured disc to choose to encrypt the file names on the disc.
  10. Click the OK button.
    The Workspace window re-opens.

  11. Use the Media pane to locate and select the files to be burned on the disc. Then, drag the files to the secured data pane (indicated in pink) or the non-secured data pane. Alternatively, click in the secured or unsecured pane, select the files, and then click the Add Files icon to add the files to the pane.
  12. When all of the files are added, click the Burn now button.
  13. The Settings/Information window opens to set configuration options for the current project. Set the configuration options using the Settings/Information tabs. For details on how to use the Settings/Information tabs, click here.
  14. Click Burn.
    Power2Go burns the disc.

Creating a Music Disc

Burn audio files (in MP3, WAV, or WMA format) to a CD or DVD in MP3 or WMA format; or create a traditional audio CD that can be played back on a CD player.
note:
Depending on the computer burner, this option may not be available.
To create a music disc, complete the following steps:
  1. Insert a blank, recordable disc in the CD/DVD drive.
  2. Open Power2Go.
  3. Select Music Disc from the main menu.

  4. Select the type of disc to create by clicking on Audio CD, WMA CD, or WMA Disc.

  5. In the Media pane, select the audio files or folders to be burned.
  6. Drag the selected files or folders to the disc content pane or click the Add files icon.
    note:
    To extract the audio track from a video clip to the audio CD, add the video clip file to the disc content pane.
  7. To add textual information such as song and composer names to each track, use the following steps.
    1. In the disc content pane, right-click a file or folder.
    2. Then from the drop-down menu click Edit CD Text and enter the information in the fields.
    3. Click OK.
  8. When all of the music to be burned is added to the disc content pane, click the Burn now button.
  9. The Settings/Information window opens to set configuration options for the current project. Set the configuration options using the Settings/Information tabs. For details on how to use the Settings/Information tabs, click here.
  10. Click Burn.
    Power2Go burns the disc.

Creating a Video Disc

Use the Video Disc function to burn a DVD folder to a DVD disc.
To burn a DVD folder to disc, complete the following steps:
  1. Insert a blank, recordable DVD disc in the CD/DVD drive.
  2. Open Power2Go.
  3. Select Video Disc from the main menu.

  4. Select Burn DVD Folder from the main menu. The Burn DVD Folder window displays.

  5. In the From: box, select the Folder to be burned.
  6. In the To: box, change the disc name, if desired. Then select the destination drive.
    note:
    If the computer has only one CD, DVD, or Blu-ray drive, the source and target are the same drive. CyberLink Power2Go copies the data from the source disc, ejects the source disc, then prompts to insert a blank, recordable disc.
  7. Set a Write speed. Select a write speed from the drop-down list. Enable this option to ensure that data is written to the disc without interruption. The entire process can take longer but the chances of creating a bad disc are reduced. (Write speed selection is only available if the system has more than one optical reader.
  8. Set the Number of Copies to burn.
  9. To perform a write simulation before burning the disc, select Perform write simulation. Enable this option to verify that the burner can write to the disc at the selected speed without error. If a disc has previously been recorded using the selected configuration, a simulation does not need to be run.
  10. Click Burn.
    Power2Go burns the disc.
note:
The option to burn video files to a Video CD (VCD) disc or a DVD-Video disc requires an upgrade to Power2Go.
Click the Upgrade icon to open the Upgrade menu.

Creating a Photo Gallery disc

Use the Photo Gallery Disc function to create a CD or DVD that runs on a computer. Browse through the photo collection on the disc or play photo slideshows with the included viewer.

Use the Photo Gallery function to create a photo showcase disc that runs on a PC. Use the disc to browse through a photo collection and play slideshows with the included viewer. Creating a Photo Gallery disc requires an upgrade to Power2Go. Click the Upgrade icon to open the Upgrade menu.

Creating a System Recovery disc

Use the System Recovery function to create a system recovery disc that can be used to restore the computer if Windows ever stops working.

Make a recovery disc to restore the computer to its original condition in case of a major problem. Creating a system recovery disc requires an upgrade to Power2Go. Click the Upgrade icon to open the Upgrade menu.

Using Copy Disc functions

Use the Copy Disc functions to copy from one disc to another disc, to copy from a disc into a folder in the computer, or to burn a disc image.

Using Disc Utilities

Use Disc Utilities to perform various disc functions such as erasing a disc, creating a mixed media disc, and ripping a CD audio disc.

Using the desktop burning gadget

Use CyberLink Power2Go desktop burning gadget to make burning discs a quick and easy task. The Power2Go desktop burning icon sits on the desktop.

Accessing desktop burning gadget

To add the Power2Go desktop burning gadget to the Windows 8 Desktop use the following steps:
  1. Start Power2Go
  2. Click on the Preferences icon .
  3. Select the General tab.

  4. Click the box next to Run desktop burning gadget at Windows startup, and then click OK.

  5. Restart the computer by opening the Charms menu, selecting Power and then selecting Restart.
  6. After restarting, the Desktop Burning Gadget icon displays on the desktop.
These functions are available in Power2Go desktop burning gadget:

Drag data files to this icon to burn a data disc.

Drag music files to this icon to burn an audio CD disc.
All music discs burned with Power2Go Desktop Burning Gadget are burned in the audio CD format.
Dragging video files to the Audio Disc icon extracts and burns the audio from the video files.

Drag video files to this icon to burn a movie disc.
Drag image files to the Video Disc icon to burn a slideshow, video files to burn a video disc, or both image and video files to burn a disc with both a video and a slideshow.
Slideshows created in Power2Go Desktop Burning Gadget have a default slide duration of three seconds.
note:
Video disc gadget requires an upgrade to Power2Go.
To upgrade Power2Go, click the Upgrade icon from the Power2Go main menu.

Click the Burn icon on the Disc Copy Desktop Burning Gadget icon to copy a disc.

Setting the configuration options

The sections below instruct how to use the Settings/Information tabs to configure CyberLink Power2Go.
note:
The tabs that are displayed and the options available on each tab depend on the burning function being used.
  • The Info tab displays information about the selected disc drive, the disc in the drive, as well as the current project.

    Click the plus icon next to an item to view more detailed information.
  • The Data tab displays options for making a Data, CD Extra or Mixed Mode CD.

    Configure CyberLink Power2Go using the settings available in the Data tab, listed below:
    • Make auto-run disc: When this option is enabled, a computer runs the selected auto-run file when the disc is inserted. Click Browse..., then locate the auto-run file to be used. When this option is disabled, the computer takes no action when the disc is inserted.
    • Change disc icon: Change the icon that appears when the disc is viewed in Windows Explorer. Click Browse..., then locate the icon file (.ICO) to be used.
    • File system: Set the File system of the disc to be burned.
    • Auto-split content by disc capacity: automatically divides the files to be burned into volumes (portions) according to the size of the destination disc.
  • The Common tab displays options available when burning different kinds of discs.

    Configure CyberLink Power2Go using the settings available in the Common tab, listed below:
    • Disc name: Enter a name for the disc. The disc name appears on a disc player when the disc is played.
      note:
      Power2Go automatically names data discs MY_DATA with the current date. For example: MY_DATA_092412.
    • Use the original date and time: This option uses the original date and time of the files that will be burned to the disc.
    • Use the current date and time: This option uses the current date and time on the computer.
    • Use this date and time: Choose to enter a specific date and time in the fields provided.
  • The Burner tab displays information about the disc burner and options for controlling its function.

    Configure CyberLink Power2Go using the settings available in the Burner tab, listed below:
    • Burner: Shows the CD or DVD drive that is selected as the disc burner.
    • Write speed: Select a write speed from the drop-down list. Enable this option to ensure that data is written to the disc without interruption. The entire process can take longer but the chances of creating a bad disc are reduced. (Write speed selection is only available if the system has more than one optical reader)
    • Copies: Enter the number of disc copies to burn.
    • Enable buffer underrun protection: Enabling this option helps ensure that data is written to the disc without interruption. (An interruption in data can result in an unusable disc.)
    • Perform write simulation: Enable this option to verify that the burner can write to the disc at the selected speed without error. If buffer underrun protection is enabled or a disc has previously been recorded using the selected configuration, a simulation does not need to be run.
    • Close disc (no further data can be added): Enable this option so no further data can be added to the disc after the current burning session.
    • Verify recorded data: Enable this option to compare the recorded data to the source data after the burning is complete and verify that the data was written to the disc correctly.
    • Enable defect management: Check this option to enable CyberLink Power2Go to detect and manage any defects on the disc.
  • The Audio CD tab displays options for making an audio CD music disc, or CD Extra or Mixed Mode CD.

    Configure CyberLink Power2Go using the settings available in the Audio CD tab, listed below:
    • Enable CD text: Manually add information (album or artist name) to audio tracks in the entry boxes provided.
    • Normalize volume in all tracks of the CD: Adjust the volume of all of the audio tracks on the CD to the same level.
    • Auto-split content by disc capacity: This option automatically divides the files to be burned into volumes (portions) according to the size of the destination disc.
    • Insert audio gap between tracks: Add silence between tracks. Enter the desired duration in the Seconds box.
  • The WMA CD tab displays options for making a WMA music disc.

    Configure CyberLink Power2Go using the settings available in the WMA CD tab, listed below:
    • Quality: Select a quality from the drop-down box.
    • Auto-generate playlist: creates a playlist based on the songs added to the disc.
    • Insert audio gap between tracks: Add silence between tracks. Enter the desired duration in the Seconds box.
