HP Enterprise, HP LaserJet Pro - Use HP's Built-in Print Solution for Android and Fire

HP's built-in print solution can be used to automatically find and print from an Android or Kindle device to select HP printers using a W-Fi or Wireless Direct connection. Because the print solution is built into the Android operating system, you do not need to install drivers or download software to use it. Kindle devices require a one-time download to install the HP Print Plug-In the first time that the print solution is used.

Use HP's built-in print solution

  1. From a supported app, open the app's menu, and then tap Print.
  2. For Kindle users, download and install the HP Print Plug-in when prompted.
  3. Find the option to select your printer to view a list of available printers.
  4. Find the printer on the Wi-Fi or Wireless Direct list, and then tap to select it.
To use Wireless Direct printing, the Android or Kindle device must be within wireless range of the printer.
  5. If prompted, follow the on-screen instructions to complete the connection.
After you select the printer, your device will remember the selection for future use.
  6. Make any changes to the available print options.
  7. Tap Print.

Check compatibility

HP's built-in print solution for Android is compatible only with select HP printers and only works with certain Android and Fire operating system versions. Additionally, HP's built-in print solution must use a supported connection type, and print supported file types from compatible applications. If you are not sure, use the following information to check compatibility.

Supported Android devices

HP's built-in print solution is available on mobile devices running Android 4.1 (Jelly Bean) and later, or Kindle's Fire OS 3.0 (Mojito) and later.

When the Android device connects to a Wi-Fi network, the device automatically finds and displays the available printers. When the device is not connected to a Wi-Fi network, the device automatically finds and displays Wireless Direct-capable printers nearby.
  • Wi-Fi connection: When the device and the printer are connected to the same local wireless or Wireless LAN (Wi-Fi) network (or subnet) through an access point at any location.
  • Wireless Direct: When the device is connected directly to a nearby HP Wireless Direct-capable printer. Wireless Direct is a feature on select HP printers that enables wireless printing without a accessing the company network.
