This document applies to HP Pavilion 500 desktop computers.

warning:The edges of metal panels can cut skin. Be careful not to slide skin along any interior metal edge of the computer.
caution:This product contains components that can be damaged by electrostatic discharge (ESD). To reduce the chance of ESD damage, work over a non-carpeted floor, use a static dissipative work surface (such as a conductive foam pad), and wear an ESD wrist strap connected to a grounded surface.
note:For best quality on dial-up connections, wait until the video has fully loaded before viewing.
warning:Make sure the computer is disconnected from power before starting.
Step 1
Remove the side panel.

Step 2
Locate the power supply in the computer.

Step 3
Remove the power supply connectors to the motherboard and other system components.

Step 4
Detach all connectors from the rear of the optical drive to create clearance for removing the power supply.

Step 5
Remove the four screws that connect the power supply to the computer.
Save the screws for power supply replacement.

Step 6
Press the latch at the edge of the power supply inside the unit...

...and slide the power supply inwards...
|

...before pulling the power supply out of the computer.

warning:Always replace the entire power supply. Never attempt to disassemble the power supply or work on components within the power supply unit.
Step 1
Find the guides inside the computer that indicate the position of the power supply.

Step 2
Find the latch inside the computer that helps secure the power supply to the computer.

Step 3
To replace the power supply, align the power supply within the guides...

...and then slide the power supply towards the rear of the unit until the latch snaps into place.

Step 4
Replace the four screws to secure the power supply to the computer.

Step 5
Reconnect the connectors to the optical drive.

Replace the power supply connectors to the motherboard and other system components.

Replace the side panel.
