HP Notebook PCs - Using the HP Control Zone Touchpad (Windows 8)

This document pertains to HP notebook computers with HP Control Zone touchpad and Windows8.
HP Control Zone touchpads have three zones that perform different functions. Use the control zones to navigate certain features in Windows8.

This document explains how to use the touchpad control zones, and how to change the settings to remove the control zones, if desired.

Using an HP Control Zone touchpad

Each session, touch or swipe the touchpad to activate it before use. Refer to the following information about how to use your touchpad:
  • Select an item: Touch and drag in the center of the touchpad. Apply pressure to select.
  • Switch between recently-used apps: Click within the left control zone. Slide your finger up and down in the control zone to select an app, then press to open the selected app.
  • Open or close the application bar: Swipe down from the top edge of the touchpad to open or close the application bar at the bottom of the screen.
  • Use the charms bar: Swipe in from the right control zone. Slide your finger up and down in the control zone to select a charm, then press to open the selected charm.
  • Close an app: Using three fingers, swipe down from the center of the touchpad.
  • Right-click: Click the lower center area of the touchpad, just to the left of the right control zone.

Changing HP Control Zone touchpad settings

If you want to disable the edge swipe control zone actions and allow right-click and left-click within the control zones, change the HP Control Zone touchpad settings.
note:
Changing the touchpad control zone settings does not change the way the notebook touchscreen functions. You will still be able to use swipe gestures on the touchscreen to open Windows8 features, such as swiping from the right edge to open the charms bar, or swiping from the left to open recently-used apps.
  1. On the Start screen, type control panel, then click Control Panel from the list of results.
  2. Click the View by drop-down menu, and select Large icons.
  3. Click HP Control Zone.

  4. Remove the check mark next to Enable Edge Swipes, then click OK.
The left and right control zones now accept right-click and left-click actions.
