HP ZBook 15, 17, and Studio G3 Mobile Workstations - How to Disable Integrated Graphics in the BIOS

This document pertains to the ZBook 15, 15 G2, 15 G3, 17, 17 G2, 17 G3, and Studio G3 mobile workstations.
This document describes how to disable the integrated Intel graphics card and use Nvidia Quadro graphics for higher performance.
The ZBook 15, 17, and Studio G3 mobile workstations come with Nvidia Optimus Technology, which allows customers to switch between integrated graphics (battery power saving) and discrete Nvidia Quadro graphics (high performance).

Disable Hybrid Graphics in BIOS (G1 and G2)

If you have a G1 or G2 model, use the following steps to disable Hybrid Graphics in the BIOS:
  1. Press the power button to turn off the workstation.
  2. Press the power button again to turn on the workstation, and then repeatedly press the esc key to enter the Startup Menu.
  3. From the Startup Menu, press the F10 key to enter the BIOS setup utility.
  4. Click Advanced.
  5. Select Device Configurations.
  6. Select Hybrid Graphics, and then click Disable.
  7. Click Save, and, when prompted, click Save changes and exit BIOS.

Disable Hybrid Graphics in BIOS (G3)

If you have a G3 model, use the following steps to disable Hybrid Graphics in the BIOS:
  1. Press the power button to turn off the workstation.
  2. Press the power button again to turn on the workstation, and then repeatedly press the esc key to enter the Startup Menu.
  3. From the Startup Menu, press the F10 key to enter the BIOS setup utility.
  4. Click Advanced.
  5. Select Built-In Device Options.
  6. Select Graphics, and then select Discrete Graphics.
  7. Click Save, and, when prompted, click Save changes and exit BIOS.
