Adding or Replacing Memory for HP Envy Recline 23 TouchSmart All-in-One PCs

Before you begin

  • Have a Phillips head screwdriver ready .
  • Turn off the computer, disconnect the Ethernet or modem cable, and Disconnect the power cord.
  • Transfer the computer to a clean, flat, stable work surface over a noncarpeted floor. HP recommends putting down a blanket, towel, or othersoft cloth to protect the screen from scratches or other damage.
  • Use an antistatic wrist strap and a conductive foam pad when working on the computer.Electrostatic discharge (ESD) can damage your processor, disk drives, expansion boards and other components. HP strongly recommends the use of the wrist strap and conductive foam pad.
  • Remove a component from its protective packaging only when you are ready to install it.
  caution:
This product contains components that can be damaged by electrostatic discharge (ESD). To reduce the chance of ESD damage, work over a noncarpeted floor, use a static dissipative work surface (such as a conductive foam pad), and wear an ESD wrist strap connected to a grounded surface.

Removing the memory

Use the following steps to remove the memory:
Step 1
Remove the access door.

Remove the memory cover by squeezing the release latch for the memory cover until the memory cover pops up.
note:
You might need to press the memory cover down at the same time to get it to release.

To remove the SO-DIMM memory module, gently pull out on the retaining lever located on each side of the module.
The memory module will pop up from its socket.

Pull the memory module out of the socket.

Replacing the memory

Use the following steps to replace the memory:
Step 1
Find the small notch on the side of the memory module.

Find the small tab on the side of the memory socket.

Step 3
To replace a memory module, angle the module to about 45 degrees and engage the notch on the module with the tab in the socket.

Press the memory module down into place until the retaining levers snap into position over the sides of the module.

Find the two tabs on the memory cover...
...and then find the two slots in the computer.

Align the tabs into their slots and press the other side of the memory cover down firmly until the green release latch snaps into place to secure the cover.
