Setting Up the Printer Hardware for HP Color LaserJet Pro M176n MFP Printers

Introduction

This document explains how to set up the physical parts of the product. Complete these steps before you install the product software on your computer.

Setting up the printer

Follow these steps in order.

Step 1: Check the contents of the box

The contents might vary by country/region. See the packaging for a list of items shipped in the box.

Step 2: Remove the packaging and prepare the cartridges

  1. Take the printer out of its box, and then remove the packaging.

  2. Place the printer in a sturdy, well-ventilated, dust-free area away from direct sunlight.
  3. Lift the scanner assembly, and then remove the tape and protective foam from underneath.

  4. Open the cartridge access door, remove the foam insert, and then pull the two orange rings straight up to remove the cartridge sealing tape.

  5. Hold the left and right corners of the included setup instructions, and then pull straight up to remove them.

  6. Recycle the packing material.

  7. Attach the input paper tray (bottom), the output paper tray extender (top), and then lower the scanner assembly.

    1. Attach the input paper tray

    3. Lower the scanner assembly

Step 3: Load paper

Follow these steps to load paper in the paper input tray.
note:
To purchase paper in the United States and Canada, go to the HP Store.
  1. Slide the left and right paper width guides all the way to the outside of the paper tray, and then, if necessary, pull the bottom paper width guide as far away from the printer as possible.

  2. Load plain white paper into the paper tray.

  3. If necessary, slide the paper width guides inward so that they rest on the edges of the paper.

  4. Place the dust cover on the paper tray.

Step 4: Adjust the control panel display

Gently lift the control panel display into the preferred position.

Step 5: Connect the power cord and turn on the power

  1. Connect the power cord to the rear of the printer.
  2. Plug the power cord into an electrical outlet.

  3. Press the Power button to turn on the printer. The printer initializes and calibrates itself.
    note:
    Wait until the printer is idle and silent before proceeding. Do not connect the USB cable yet.

Step 6: Select the language

During the initialization, the Language menu displays.
Press the Right Arrow button () until your preferred language is displayed, and then press OK.
