This document applies to the HP Smart website service and associated applications.
This article describes the personal data HP collects and uses in conjunction with your HP Smart Profile, in accordance with the HP Privacy Statement.
Do I need to create an account to use my printer?
No, you do not need an HP Smart account to use your HP printer, including when printing on a wireless network. However, creating an account will allow you to customize your HP ePrint email address, manage who can use your HP ePrint email address, and much more. You can also use the same account to sign up for subscription services, such as HP Instant Ink.
What is an HP Smart Profile?
Your HP Smart user ID and password provide you secure access to the information you share across all HP Smart applications. For your convenience, the information you provide in one HP Smart application is made available to other HP Smart applications. This information is collectively referred to as your HP Smart Profile.
What information do we store on and collect from your device regarding your use of HP Smart services, and how do we use that information?
HP collects and uses personal, device, and application information to assist you in managing your HP Smart Profile, to provide data for those services that you choose to use, and to personalize your HP Smart experience. HP may also collect information about your use of HP Smart applications through our Automatic Data Collection Tools. Your HP Smart Profile data might be combined with other HP customer data so that we can provide you with support and to better understand our customers.
General data collected by HP Smart:
Contact information, such as your name, address, telephone number, and email address
Contact preferences
IDs and passwords
Billing and transaction information, including your credit card number, for certain paid services (credit card information retained at your request)
Product and service preferences
Identifying data on the HP and non-HP devices you use, including the manufacturer’s name, the model or product number, and a serial number or similar unique identifier
For HP devices, additional component functionality data
Email addresses of friends for tell-a-friend features
HP Smart app versioning, updates, and usage
Web usage analytics

Unique device identifier of your printer
Originating email address and subject line of messages sent to your device
Specifications of documents you print including file size, file type, file name, time stamp, and number of pages or copies
Print software application that generated the printed file

Certain website preferences (e.g., "Don’t show me this again")
Are my HP Smart Profile and other personal data secure?
Yes. The data is transmitted to HP’s servers using strong encryption. Any personal data stored by HP applications on your PC or other devices is also encrypted, so only other HP Smart applications may access it.
