HP Printers - How to Scan (Windows)

1. Load the document or photo you want to scan.
2. Search Windows for HP MFP Scan, and then click it to open the software.
   If HP MFP Scan does not display, download and install HP MFP Scan from 123.hp.com.
3. Choose a scanning option.
   • Quick Scan quickly scan a document or photo without changing any scan settings.
   • Advanced Scan allows you to select the type of scan job, such as scanning an image, document, or book, and then adjust any desired scan settings.
   • E-Book Conversion converts the current scan or an existing file on your computer into the e-book format (EPUB).
4. After scanning the document or photo, type a file name under Name.
5. Under File Format, click the drop-down list, and then select a format, such as JPEG or PDF.
6. Under Save to Location, select a location on your computer to save the file.
7. If you want to save the current scan settings for future use, click Save as Favorite, type a name, and then click Save.
   The name of the scan settings displays as an option in the Advanced Scan menu.
8. Click Save to save the file and return to the home screen.
9. To view your scan, open the folder you saved the scan to, and then double-click the file.

3. Adjust any scan settings, and then click Scan.
4. Under File Format, click the drop-down menu, and then click PDF.
5. Under Save to Location, select a location on your computer to save the file, and then click Save.
6. To view your scan, open the folder in which you saved the scan, and then double-click the file.

2. Click Advanced Scan, and then click Image Scanning or Document Scanning.
3. Adjust any scan settings, and then click Scan.
4. Under File Format, click the drop-down list, and then select the desired format, such as JPEG or PDF.
5. Click Scan More, and then click Scan.
6. Repeat this step for all additional pages or photos.
7. Under Save to Location, select a location on your computer to save the file, and then click Save.
8. To view your scan, open the folder in which you saved the scan, and then double-click the file.

1. Search Windows for solution center.
   • If HP Solution Center displays, click it to open the software, and then continue to the next step.
   • If HP Solution Center does not display, go to HP Customer Support - Software and Driver Downloads, and then enter your printer model number. Under the Driver-Product Installation Software heading, click Download next to the full feature driver.
     If a full feature driver does not display, the printer does not support HP Solution Center software. Install a different scanning software title.
     
2. Click Scan Document or Scan Picture to view available scan shortcuts and settings.
   
3. Click the shortcut that matches the file type and resulting action you want.
4. Change any of the shortcut default settings in the right side of the window.

   note:

   Available shortcut settings change depending on the scan job. For example, the JPEG File type is only available for photo scans.

5. Click Advanced Picture Settings or Advanced Document Settings to change settings such as quality and resolution.
6. Click Save to file Save Options to change file names and folder locations.
7. Click Scan.
   The printer scans the item and a scan preview window opens.
8. Click the scanned item to make any additional changes.
9. Click Finish to save the scanned file.
10. To view your scan, open the folder you saved the scan to, and then double-click the file.

1. In Solution Center, click Scan Document, and then select a scan to PDF shortcut to set up and scan the item.
2. Click Scan, and then click Finish to save the scanned file.
3. To view your scan, open the folder in which you saved the scan, and then double-click the file.

1. Check the following requirements for multi-page scanning into one file:
   • For best results saving multiple photos into one file, use the PDF document-related shortcuts.
   • Use a resolution setting of 300 DPI or lower.
2. In HP Solution Center, click Scan Document.
3. Select one of the shortcuts, and then click Save to file Save Options.
4. Make sure the option to create one file per scanned page is not selected.
5. Click Scan.
   The printer scans the item and a scan preview opens on the computer.
6. Load the next item on the scanner glass, and then click the plus sign or Add Pages.
7. Click Finish to save the multi-page file.
8. To view your scan, open the folder where the scan was saved, and then double-click the file.

note:

Web-based email such as Gmail, Yahoo Mail, or Hotmail must be configured with the local email client to use this feature. Check the email client support site for IMAP, POP, and SMTP information required to connect the email account.

1. In HP Solution Center, click Scan Document or Scan Picture, and then select an email-related shortcut (Document to Email, Picture to Email).
2. Click Email Save Options to add recipient email addresses, a subject, and a message to the email.
3. Click Scan to preview the item before sending.
4. Click Finish to send the email with the scan attached.

• If a shortcut displays, load the document on the scanner glass or into the document feeder, and then click Scan.
  The printer scans the item as a document that you can edit.
• If a shortcut does not display, your printer did not ship with HP OCR software. Install OCR software, such as OmniPage, FineReader, or Readiris.

1. In HP Solution Center, click the Settings icon at the bottom of the window, and then click Scan Settings.
2. Set the default scan job settings:
   • View settings and a preview at the time of scan (recommended)
     Click Scan Picture Settings or Scan Document Settings, and then click the Solution Center Scan Buttons tab. Select the check box next to Prompt for settings at the time of the scan and next to Show preview scan.
   • Add or remove scan job types on the printer control panel
     Click Scan to...Setup to select shortcuts you want to display on the printer, and then click Update the Device.
   • Set default quality and color settings
     Click Scan Preferences to set automated color and quality adjustments, orientation preferences, and prompts to add additional pages.
   • Change or create custom scan default settings
     Click Manage Scan Shortcuts to review default settings for a selected scan shortcut or change basic settings for custom shortcuts.
3. Click the Home icon at the bottom of the window to return to the main menu.

1. In HP Solution Center, click Scan Document or Scan Picture, and then select a shortcut.
2. Click Save to file Save Options, and then click Browse to select the folder.
3. Click OK.
4. Click Save Shortcut in the shortcut window.
5. Repeat these steps for each scan shortcut.
