HP Desktop PCs - Testing for Hardware Failures (Windows 10, 8)

This information applies to HP and Compaq desktop computers with Windows 10 and Windows 8.
HP provides diagnostic software you can use to test hardware components on your computer and confirm hardware failures when you suspect something is wrong.
Use HP PC Hardware Diagnostics UEFI as the preferred method for testing hardware and when Windows does not start. Most hardware issues can be detected by UEFI diagnostic tests. If HP PC Diagnostics UEFI is not installed on your computer, or if you need more detailed instructions, refer to Testing using HP PC Hardware Diagnostics (UEFI).
  note:
To test the hardware on a computer with a Linux operating system, run the HP PC Hardware Diagnostics from a USB drive. To download the latest version of the diagnostics, go to the HP Hardware Diagnostics website.
If you are ready to run the tests, use the instructions in the following sections. Start by using the Quick Test to quickly identify hardware issues. After running the Quick Test, if no errors are found but your computer is still exhibiting symptoms of a hardware problem, run the Extensive Test.
