to automatically diagnose and resolve printer hardware and connection issues.As an alternative to using the HP Print and Scan Doctor (or if it did not resolve your issue), try the following solutions. Solutions are listed in order, with the most likely solution first. If the first solution does not solve the problem, continue trying the remaining solutions until the issue is resolved.
Solution 1: Make sure that the printer is turned on
-
Look at the On button located on the printer. If it is not lit, the printer is turned off. Make sure the power cord is firmly connected to the printer and plugged into a power outlet. Press the On button to turn on the printer.

Try using your printer again.
Solution 2: Check if the printer is paused or offline
-
Depending upon your operating system, do one of the following:Windows 7
-
On the taskbar, click the Windows icon, and then click Devices and Printers.Right-click the printer icon, and then select See What's Printing.
Windows Vista-
On the taskbar, click the Windows icon, click Control Panel, and then click Printers.Double-click the icon for your printer to open the print queue.
Windows XP-
On the taskbar, click Start, click Control Panel, and then double-click Printers and Faxes.Double-click the icon for your printer to open the print queue.

On the Printer menu, make sure there are no check marks next to Pause Printing or Use Printer Offline.
-
If you made any changes, try to print again.
Solution 3: Verify that the product is set as the default printer
-
Depending upon your operating system, do one of the following:Windows 7
-
On the taskbar, click the Windows icon, and then click Devices and Printers.
Windows Vista-
On the taskbar, click the Windows icon, click Control Panel, and then click Printers.
Windows XP-
On the taskbar, click Start, click Control Panel, and then double-click Printers and Faxes.

Make sure the correct product is set as the default printer.The default printer has a check mark in a black or green circle next to it.
-
If the wrong product is set as the default printer, right-click the correct product and select Set as Default Printer.
-
Try using your printer again.
Solution 4: Verify that paper is properly loaded in the input tray
-
Do one of the following:Load full-size paper
-
Pull out the paper tray, slide the paper-width guides outward, and then remove any other media that was previously loaded.Figure : Slide paper-width guide to its outermost position
Load paper:-
Insert a stack of paper into the input tray with the short edge forward and print side down.Figure : Insert stack of paper

Slide the stack of paper forward until it stops.

Slide the paper-width guides inward until they stop at the edges of the paper.Figure : Slide paper-width guide to the right
note:
If you pulled out the paper tray while loading, make sure you push it back in before you print. -
Push the paper tray back in, and then open the paper tray extender.Figure : Slide paper-width guide to the right

Load small-size paper-
Pull out the paper tray, slide the paper-width guides outward, and then remove any other media that was previously loaded.Figure : Slide paper-width guide to the left
Load paper:-
Insert a stack of photo paper into the paper tray with the short edge forward and print side down.Figure : Load photo paper in the tray

Slide the photo paper forward until it stops.Figure : Load photo paper in the tray
note:
If you are using photo paper that has perforated tabs, load the photo paper so that the tabs are closest to you. -

Load envelopes-
Pull out the paper tray, slide the paper-width guides outward, and then remove any other media that was previously loaded.Figure : Slide paper-width guide to its outermost position
Load envelopes:-
Insert one or more envelopes into the center of the input tray, with the envelope flaps on the left and facing up.Figure : Graphic - Load a stack of envelopes into the main input tray

Slide the stack of envelopes forward until it stops.

Slide the paper-width guides inward until they stop at the edges of the envelopes.

Push the paper tray back in, and then open the paper tray extender.

Try using your printer again.
Solution 5: Restart the print spooler
-
Depending upon your operating system, do one of the following:Windows 7
-
On the taskbar, click the Windows icon, Control Panel, System and Security, and then Administrative Tools.Double-click Services.Right-click the Print Spooler, and then click Properties.On the General tab, next to Startup type, make sure that Automatic is selected.If the service is not already running, under Service status, click Start, and then click OK.
Windows Vista-
On the taskbar, click the Windows icon, Control Panel, System and Maintenance, Administrative Tools.Double-click Services.Right-click the Print Spooler service, and then click Properties.On the General tab, next to Startup type, make sure that Automatic is selected.If the service is not already running, under Service status, click Start, and then click OK.
Windows XP-
On the taskbar, click Start, and then right click My Computer.Click Manage, and then click Services and Applications.Double-click Services, and then select Print Spooler.Right-click Print Spooler, and click Restart to restart the service.

Wait while the service restarts, and then try printing again.
Solution 6: Restart the computer

Bookmark this page so that you can return to it if necessary, then restart your computer.

Try using your printer again.
Solution 7: Clear the print queue
-
Depending upon your operating system, do one of the following:Windows 7

On the taskbar, click the Windows icon, and then click Devices and Printers.
Windows Vista-
On the taskbar, click the Windows icon, click Control Panel, and then click Printers.
Windows XP-
On the taskbar, click Start, click Control Panel, and then double-click Printers and Faxes.

Double-click the icon for your printer to open the print queue.
-
On the Printer menu, click Cancel all documents or Purge Print Document, and then click Yes to confirm.
-
If there are still documents in the queue, restart the computer and try printing again after the computer has restarted.
-
Check the print queue again to make sure it is clear, and then try to print again.If the print queue is not clear, or if it is clear but jobs are still failing to print, proceed to the next solution.
Solution 8: Check if you need to update your printer drivers
-
Follow the link below to the Software and Driver Downloads page.If supported in your language, there is a link you can click to determine if your printer drivers are already up to date.
-
If an updated printer driver is available, follow the instructions to install it, and then try printing again.
Solution 9: Verify whether the software application is the source of the problem
-
Close the software application from which you are printing, and then reopen it.
-
Try to print again from the software application.
note:
The printer might not support printing from a DOS application. Determine if the software application is Windows-based or DOS-based by checking the system requirements of the application. -
If you are still having a problem, try printing from Notepad to see if the issue is the software application or the driver.To print from Notepad
-
On the taskbar, click the Windows icon or Start, and then click Programs or All Programs.Click Accessories, and then click Notepad.Type a few characters of text into Notepad.Click File, and then click Print.

If printing is successful from Notepad but not the software application, contact the manufacturer of that application for support.
Solution 10: Verify that the correct printer port is in use
-
Depending upon your operating system, do one of the following:Windows 7

On the taskbar, click the Windows icon, and then click Devices and Printers.Right-click Printer properties.
Windows Vista-
On the taskbar, click the Windows icon, click Control Panel, and then click Printers.Right-click the printer icon, and then select Properties.
Windows XP-
On the taskbar, click Start, click Control Panel, and then double-click Printers and Faxes.Right-click the printer icon, and then select Properties.

Click the Ports tab to verify that the printer is using the correct port.The port that the printer is using is highlighted and has a check mark next to it. For a USB connection, the printer should be set to use the USB00X (where X is replaced by a number) port. For a wireless connection, the port name may vary. It may say something like Standard TCP/IP port or HP network rediscovery port monitor.

If the printer is using the wrong port, click the correct port to select it.The port that the printer is now using is highlighted and has a check mark next to it.

Try using your printer again.
Solution 11: Check to make sure the correct print driver is selected

Depending upon your operating system, do one of the following:Windows 7

On the taskbar, click the Windows icon, and then click Devices and Printers.Right-click Printer properties.
Windows Vista-
On the taskbar, click the Windows icon, click Control Panel, and then click Printers.Right-click the printer icon, and then select Properties.
Windows XP-
On the taskbar, click Start, click Control Panel, and then double-click Printers and Faxes.Right-click the printer icon, and then select Properties.

Click the Advanced tab.

Check the driver listed in the Driver drop-down menu to verify that the printer is using the correct driver.The name of your printer should be listed as the driver.

If the wrong driver is selected, select the correct driver from the Driver drop-down menu.

Click OK to save your changes.

Try using your printer again.

The serial number of the printer (a 10-character code)The serial number is located on a sticker on the back or bottom of the printer. The serial number is the 10-character code on the sticker. It contains numbers and letters, but no dashes.
