HP LaserJet Pro - Restore the factory-set defaults

Introduction

Restoring the factory-set defaults returns all of the printer and network settings to the factory defaults. It will not reset the page count, tray size, or language. To restore the printer to the factory-default settings, follow these steps.

note:
Restoring to factory-set defaults will NOT reset the Embedded Web Server (EWS) password. If you lost your EWS password, please contact HP Support.

caution:
Restoring the factory-set defaults returns all of the settings to the factory defaults, and it also deletes any pages that are stored in the memory.

note:
The steps vary according to the type of control panel.

Find your printer type in the options listed below and then follow the steps to restore the factory-set defaults.

Follow these steps for printers that have a touchscreen control panel with a white display background: M428-M429, M454dw, M479

From the Home screen on the printer control panel, swipe the tab at the top of the screen downward to open the Dashboard, and then touch the Setup icon .
Scroll to and open the following menus:
1. Printer Maintenance
2. Restore
3. Restore Factory Defaults
The printer automatically restarts.

Touchscreen control panel with black background

Follow these steps for printers that have a touchscreen control panel with a black display background.

From the Home screen on the printer control panel, touch the Setup button / .
Open the Service menu.
Select the Restore Defaults option, and then touch the OK button.

The printer automatically restarts.

2-line LCD control panel

Follow these steps for printers that have a 2-line LCD control panel with physical buttons to press.

On the printer control panel, press the OK button to display the Home screen.
Open the Service menu.
Select the Restore Defaults option, and then press the OK button.

The printer automatically restarts.

For the M304-M305, M404-M405 models follow the procedure below:

On the printer control panel, press the OK button to display the Home screen.
Open the Setup menu.
Use the left and right arrows to navigate to the Printer Maintenance menu.
Navigate to the Restoremenu, and then press the OK button.
Navigate to Restore Factory Defaults, and then press the OK button.

The printer automatically restarts.
