HP Z620 Workstation - Removing and Replacing Sound Card

Introduction
This document is provided to assist in removing and replacing the sound card for the HP Z620 Workstation.
Minimum skill level
The End-User should possess product-specific knowledge and technical skill on how to service the system, and have familiarity with the operating system.

The replacement part number will vary depending on the sound card that is being replaced. If a part is listed as "Yes" under "Requires Return" then the defective part needs to be returned to HP. Click here for more information on returning parts to HP.

  note:
For customers in countries/regions with RoHS legislation (e.g. EU, China, etc.) restricting the use of hazardous substances in electrical equipment. The use of the "Original" spare part is regulated by RoHS legislation. If the unit contains a part that is labeled with the "Modified" spare number, the "Modified" spare part must be ordered as the replacement part. If the unit contains a part that is labeled with the "Original" spare number, please order the "Original" spare number as the replacement part. In this case, either the "Original" or the "Modified" spare number may be shipped which will not affect performance or functionality of the unit.

To view a video demonstrating the procedure for removing the sound card, click here to view the HP Services Media Library and then click on Remove/Replace videos. On the new window, select Sound card from the menu on the upper left hand side of the screen.
Sound card removal
  note:
This video was developed using a pre-production version of the workstation. The chassis and parts shown might not exactly match the current production version, but the part removal and replacement steps are the same.
  1. Review the safety considerations before performing the steps listed below by clicking on the following link:
      caution:
    Failure to comply with the precautions could result in damage to the product or loss of data.
  2. Disconnect the front audio cable from the card.
  3. Press on the two release latches and rotate the PCI retention clamp until it is fully open.
  4. Lift straight up on the card to remove it from the slot.
      note:
    If customer is not replacing the card with another card, cover the open slot on the PCI bulkhead with a metal slot cover.
Sound card replacement
  1. If customer is installing a new sound card, remove the slot cover from the appropriate slot on the PCI bulkhead.
  2. Align the connectors on the card with the slot on the system board.
  3. Press down on the card until it is fully seated.
  4. Rotate the PCI retention clamp down over the PCI bulkhead.
  5. Press the two PCI retention clamp tabs on the rear of the chassis until they lock into place.
  6. Connect the front audio cable to the card.
