HP TouchSmart 610 Series Desktop PC - Using an HDMI Game Console or HDMI Video Player with your TouchSmart PC

This document applies to HP TouchSmart 610 series desktop computers.

You can use your Touchsmart PC as a monitor for playing games or viewing movies from devices that display HDMI or composite video, such as XBox or a Blue-ray movie player. To do this, you connect an HDMI-compliant game console to the TouchSmart using an HDMI cable. The TouchSmart HDMI ports are located on the right side of the computer, at the bottom.

The TouchSmart provides audio from the internal speakers, or you can use headphones or external speakers that are connected to the A/V source connector (audio out) located at the back of the computer.

  caution:

When the system is in Display mode, the computer is still running in the background. The keyboard, mouse, and touch screen are active and still control the computer. To avoid making unwanted changes to open files on your computer, it is recommended that you save and close all files before connecting to the HDMI ports.

note:

When connected to the game console ports, your system is in display mode and has no recording capability.

After connecting the game console to the computer, use the Picture in Picture (PIP) software to:

• select the incoming video source.
• select the gaming mode.
• adjust the brightness, contrast, color, and volume.

1. Insert one end of the HDMI cable into the game console.
2. Insert the other end of the HDMI cable into the HDMI ports on the computer.
3. If you are using external speakers, connect the audio cable for the speakers to the A/V source connector.
4. To switch between a full screen and a partial screen, double-click the gaming image on the screen.
5. To open PIP, click Start, and then select All Programs, HP, and then select HP Picture in Picture.

   note:

   Clicking the PIP icon located on the desktop or in the system tray also opens the PIP application.

6. Click the video input: HDMI 1 (1) or HDMI 2 (2).

   note:

   Click the appropriate video input button (either HDMI 1 or HDMI 2) to toggle between full screen video and PIP.

7. Click the video mode: Gaming (3), Default (4), Movie (5), or Text (6).
8. Click Brightness (7), Contrast (8), Gamma (color) (9), or Volume (10), and then move the slider (11) up or down to make the adjustment.
9. To check for updates to the PIP software, click the ✓ button (12).

Use the A/V source button on your remote control to toggle between the two source modes: PC mode and gaming mode. If you use the remote control while you are in gaming mode, the following buttons still affect PC mode:

• A/V — Switches between sources (PC or Gaming).
• Volume — Adjusts the volume of the PC and the game console.
• Mute — Mutes sound in games and on the PC.
• Media Center (Start) — Automatically switches back to computer and opens the Media Center.
• Power — Places the system into Sleep mode.

Use any of the following methods to return to PC mode from gaming mode:

• Click on the screen or left-click the mouse to return to the desktop.
• Press the Esc key to return to the desktop.
• Press the Ctrl, Alt, Del buttons simultaneously on the keyboard.
• Press the Power/Sleep button on the keyboard or on the remote control.
• Press the Power/Sleep button on the computer.
• Press the Media Center (Start) button on the remote control.
