HP LaserJet - Setup an HP printer to Cloud Print using the HP Cloud

This document applies to HP LaserJet printer models that are not Google Cloud Print-ready. For a list of Google Cloud Print-ready printers and a link to setup instructions, go to Printers that support Google Cloud Print.
Google Cloud Print is a technology that allows you to print over the web from anywhere, including your phone or tablet, to any printer using a wide variety of Google web and mobile applications.

You will need to have a Google/Gmail account to use this service. If you do not have a Google/Gmail account, you will be given the option to create one when adding your product to the Cloud Print service.

Register with the HP Cloud

Follow the steps provided below to register the printer and setup Google Cloud Print via the HP Cloud for either HP ePrint-capable printers or HP classic printers (not ePrint-capable).
HP ePrint is a mobile printing feature that allows you to send documents or photos via email directly from your laptop, notebook, smartphone, or other mobile device through an email address assigned to the HP printer. Using this email address, Google Cloud Print can print to multiple HP printers that are HP ePrint-capable or HP Universal Print Driver (UPD) Postscript-compatible - no need for product-specific drivers.

HP ePrint-capable printers

For internet/cloud printing, this solution requires a free, one-time account registration with HP Connected (formerly HP ePrint Center) to obtain the HP printer's email address before using Google Cloud Print with the HP Cloud.
Then, using the printer's ePrint email address, add the printer to your Google account. To do this, follow these steps:
  1. Make sure the HP LaserJet is ePrint-capable and registered with HP Connected.
    1. If you are not sure that the HP LaserJet is HP ePrint-capable, go to Printers that support Google Cloud Print or to Google - Cloud Ready Printers.
    2. Obtain the printer's ePrint email address by registering with HP Connected. For instructions, go to Setup 'HP ePrint via email'.
  2. Go to Google Cloud Print and sign in.
If you do not have a Google account, click Create an account to register and create a new account.
  3. Type your HP ePrint email address in the Email box and then click Connect my printer.
  4. Follow the onscreen instructions to finish connecting your cloud ready HP printer with Cloud Print.

HP classic printers (not ePrint-capable)

Follow these steps to connect your HP classic printer to Google Cloud Print. Classic printers are those printers that do not support HP ePrint.
IMPORTANT: You must have the Google Chrome Web browser installed on your computer to use Cloud Print with a classic printer. Go to www.google.com/chrome to find information about downloading and installing Google Chrome.
  1. Make sure the HP LaserJet is HP Universal Print Driver (UPD) Postscript-compatible.
    1. Go to www.hp.com/go/upd and click the Specifications tab.
    2. Scroll down to the section HP UPD Supported products.
    3. Locate the printer in the device series list and make sure it has 'PS' listed in the PS column.
If the PS column is blank, or if the printer is not listed, the printer cannot use Cloud Print.
  2. Go to Google Cloud Print, and then click Add a Classic printer.
