HP EliteBook 2560p Notebook PC - Removing and Replacing the Wireless WAN Minicard

Introduction
This document is provided to assist in removing and replacing the wireless WAN minicard for the HP EliteBook 2560p Notebook PC.
Minimum skill level
The end user requires no hardware-specific training to replace the defective part. The end user should have familiarity with system hardware and software requiring repair.
Tools required
  • Smooth jaw, bent-tipped needle nose pliers (optional)
  • Small, smooth-tipped needle nose pliers (optional)
  • Tweezers
  • Small, Phillips-head (P1) screwdriver

Part numbers are subject to change.
The replacement part number will vary depending on the wireless WAN minicard that is being replaced. If a part is listed as "Yes" under "Requires Return" then the defective part needs to be returned to HP. Click here for more information on returning parts to HP.

  note:
For customers in countries/regions with RoHS legislation* (e.g. EU, China, etc.) restricting the use of hazardous substances in electrical equipment. The use of the Original Spare part is regulated by RoHS legislation. If your unit contains a part that is labelled with the Modified Spare number, the Modified Spare must be ordered as the replacement part. If your unit contains a part that is labelled with the Original Spare number, please order the Original Spare as the replacement part. In this case either the Original Spare or the Modified Spare may be shipped which will not affect performance or functionality of the unit.

Observe all precautions when removing and replacing components.
  1. Review the safety considerations before performing the steps listed below by clicking on the following link:
      caution:
    Failure to comply with the precautions could result in damage to your product or loss of data.
  2. Carefully disconnect the wireless antenna cables from the wireless WAN minicard with a small pair of needle nose pliers or tweezers.
      note:
    Make careful note of which wireless antenna cable is connected to each terminal on the wireless WAN minicard for later replacement.
      caution:
    Use care when disconnecting the wireless antenna cables from the wireless WAN minicard. Damaged cables or connectors can degrade notebook performance.
  3. Remove the two 3-mm P1 Phillips-head screws that secure the wireless WAN minicard to the system board and allow it to release to the spring tension position.
  4. Grasp the wireless WAN minicard by the edges and pull gently to remove it.
  5. Place the wireless WAN minicard in a static dissipative bag.

  1. Grasp the wireless WAN minicard by the edges and remove it from the static dissipative bag.
  2. Align the notch in the wireless WAN minicard with the key in the wireless WAN minicard slot on the system board.
  3. At an angle, gently insert the wireless WAN minicard into its slot on the system board.
  4. Press the wireless WAN minicard down and replace the two 3-mm P1 Phillips-head screws that secure the wireless WAN minicard to the system board.
  5. Reconnect the wireless antenna cables to the wireless WAN minicard.
      caution:
    Use care when connecting the wireless antenna cables to the wireless WAN minicard. Damaged cables or connectors can degrade notebook performance.
