Compaq Evo n1000v Notebook PC - Removing and Replacing Real-Time Clock (RTC) Battery

Introduction

This document is provided to assist in removing and replacing the real-time clock (RTC) battery for the Compaq Evo n1000v Notebook PC.

Minimum skill level

The End User requires no hardware-specific training to replace the defective part. The End user should have familiarity with system hardware and software requiring repair.

Tools required

Small, Phillips-head (P1 and P0) screwdrivers

The replacement part number will vary depending on the real-time clock (RTC) battery that is being replaced. If a part is listed as "Yes" under "Requires Return" then the defective part needs to be returned to HP.

Real-time clock (RTC) battery removal

  1. Review the safety considerations before performing the steps listed below by clicking on the following link:

    Failure to comply with the precautions could result in damage to your product or loss of data.
  2. Remove the 3 mm Phillips-head screw that secures the modem cover.
  3. Slide the modem cover toward the center of the enclosure.
  4. Use your finger to lift the inside edge of the modem cover and remove it.
  5. Use a small, flat-bladed, non-conductive tool to flip the RTC battery out of its socket.

Real-time clock (RTC) battery replacement

  1. With the positive (+) side facing up, insert and press the RTC battery into the socket.
  2. Place the modem cover into the enclosure.
  3. Slide the modem cover toward the outside of the enclosure.
  4. Replace the 3 mm Phillips-head screw.
