Compaq 610 Notebook PC - Removing and Replacing Optical Drive
Introduction
Minimum skill level
The End User requires no hardware-specific training to replace the defective part. The End user should have familiarity with system hardware and software requiring repair.
Tools required

Small, Phillips-head (P00 and P1) screwdrivers

Small Torx T8 screwdriver

Small, flat-bladed screwdriver or a flat-bladed alignment tool

The replacement part number will vary depending on the optical drive that is being replaced. If a part is listed as "Yes" under "Requires Return" then the defective part needs to be returned to HP. Click here for more information on returning parts to HP.

Remove the battery. Click here for instructions on how to remove battery.

Remove the 7mm P1 Phillips-head screw that secures the optical drive to the bottom of the base enclosure.

Use a small, flat-bladed tool to push out on the metal tab on the rear of the optical drive to partially eject it from the base enclosure.

Grasp the optical drive bezel and pull the optical drive out of the base enclosure.

Insert the optical drive into the base enclosure until the connector is seated.

Replace the 7mm T8 Torx screw that secures the optical drive to the bottom of the base enclosure.
