HP Compaq dx2400 Microtower PC - Removing and Replacing Hard Drive

Introduction
This document is provided to assist in removing and replacing the Hard drive for the HP Compaq dx2400 Microtower PC.
Minimum skill level
The End-User should possess product-specific knowledge and technical skill on how to service the system, and have familiarity with the operating system.
Tools required
  • T-15 Torx screwdriver

Part numbers are subject to change.
The replacement part number will vary depending on the Hard drive that is being replaced. If a part is listed as "Yes" under "Requires Return" then the defective part needs to be returned to HP. Click here for more information on returning parts to HP.

Hard drive removal
  1. Review the safety considerations before performing the steps listed below by clicking on the following link:
      caution:
    Failure to comply with the precautions could result in damage to the product or loss of data.
  2. Remove the two Torx-15 screws that secure the drive cage to the chassis.
  3. Press the release latch on the chassis pan and slide the drive cage away from the bottom of the chassis.
  4. Lift the drive cage.
  5. Disconnect the data and power cables from the drive.
  6. Remove the four Torx-15 screws that secure the drive to the drive cage.
  7. Slide the drive out of the drive cage.
Hard drive replacement
  note:
If the replacement drive has screws installed on the sides of the drive, remove them before inserting the drive into the drive bay. Extra screws are provided on the inside of the front bezel if needed.
  1. Slide the drive into the drive bay until the screw holes on the drive and drive cage are aligned.
  2. Replace the four Torx-15 screws that secure the drive to the drive cage.
  3. Connect the power and data cables to the drive.
  4. Place the drive cage into the chassis aligning the four guides on the bottom of the drive cage with the slots on the chassis pan.
  5. Slide the drive cage toward the bottom of the chassis until it locks into place.
  6. Replace the two Torx-15 screws that secure the drive cage to the chassis.
