HP Digital Imaging - Using a Scan Profile in HP Director or HP Photo and Imaging Director Software

Introduction
This document explains how to create and use a scan profile in the HP Photo and Imaging Director software.
Create a scan profile in HP Director
  1. To Open the HP Director, click Start, Programs, Hewlett-Packard, the scanner in use, and then click HP Photo and Imaging Director. The HP Director will open.
    Select the HP Scanjet scanner in use in the Select Device window.
  2. Click either the Scan a picture or Scan a document icon.
  3. Click Yes to the preview. A warming up the lamp message displays on the computer screen and then a preview of the scan will be shown.
      note:
    If there is not a prompt for a preview and a preview does not appear, see the Scan Picture Settings and Scan Document Settings sections.
  4. On the right hand side of the HP Scanning window, the scan preferences will be listed. Change all desired selections to meet the specification for this scan profile.
      note:
    If no preferences are listed on the right side, click the small blue arrow on the preview window. The list should then expand.
  5. Click Scan in the top right corner on the HP Scanning preview window. From the Scan menu, click Scan profile and then click Save.
  6. A name dialog box will appear. Name your scan profile and then close the HP Scanning and HP Director software.
Use a scan profile with HP Director
  1. To Open the HP Director, click Start, Programs, Hewlett-Packard, the scanner in use, and then click HP Photo and Imaging Director. The HP Director will open.
    Select the HP Scanjet scanner in use in the Select Device window.
  2. Click either the Scan a picture or Scan a document icon.
  3. Click Yes to the preview. A warming up the lamp message displays on the computer screen and then a preview of the scan will be shown.
      note:
    If there is not a prompt for a preview and a preview does not appear, see the Scan Picture Settings and Scan Document Settings sections.
  4. Click Scan in the top right corner on the HP Scanning preview window. From the Scan menu, click Scan profile and then click Load profile.
  5. A name dialog box will appear. Name your scan profile and then close the HP Scanning and HP Director software.
Use a scan profile with the Automatic Photo Feeder (APF) on an HP Scanjet 5500c series scanner
HP Photo and Imaging software version 1.2 (this is the version that shipped in the box)
Scan profiles need to be loaded during the preview for each photo scanned through the APF. See the section Using a scan profile.
A profile set as the default in the Scan Picture settings will only take affect on the last photo scanned from the APF.
HP Photo and Imaging software version 2.0
Using a scan profile can be created using a single photo and applied as the default for all future photos.
  1. Create a profile using the steps listed above.
  2. Set this profile as the defaut setting for Scan Pictures using the steps listed above.
  3. Disable the Preview for all pages in order for all of the photos to be affected by the profile as described in the button settings section.
  note:
The default scan profile can also be associated with the scan button on the front panel of the scanner.
Use a scan profile with the Automatic Document Feeder (ADF) on an HP Scanjet 5550c series scanner
HP Photo and Imaging software version 1.2.1 (this is the version that shipped in the box)
A scan profile can be created using a single page of a document and applied as the default for all future documents.
  1. Create a profile using the steps listed above.
  2. Set this profile as the default setting for Scan Document using the steps listed above.
  note:
The default scan profile can also be associated with the scan button on the front panel of the scanner. The preview will need to be disabled for all pages of the document to be affected by the profile. See the Button Settings section.
HP Photo and Imaging software version 2.0
A scan profile can be created using a single page of a document and applied as the default for all future documents without having to turn off the preview.
  1. Create a profile using the steps listed above.
  2. Set this profile as the default setting for Scan Pictures using the steps listed above.
  note:
The default scan profile can also be associated with the scan button on the front panel of the scanner.
Apply a scan profile as a default
  1. To Open the HP Director, click Start, Programs, Hewlett-Packard, the scanner in use, and then click HP Photo and Imaging Director. The HP Director will open.
    Select the HP Scanjet scanner in use in the Select Device window.
  2. Click either the Scan a picture or Scan a document icon.
  3. Click the Apply scan profile box and choose the desired profile from the Scan menu.
  4. Click Apply, then OK.
      note:
    If no scan profiles are listed, see the section titled "Creating a scan profile in the HP Director."
