Release date : 11-Feb-2005

Last updated : 22-Feb-2007

DESCRIPTION
HP Restore Plus CD And Process Should Be Used To Install Microsoft Windows On HP Workstations

sourceInformation

SCOPE
  • All HP Workstations with factory loaded Microsoft Windows.
  • A customer installs Microsoft Windows directly from the HP OEM Operating System (OS) CD without using the HP Restore Plus process.
  note:
This issue does not affect a retail or volume license Microsoft Windows OS CD.
RESOLUTION
  • Microsoft Windows installations should be done using the HP Restore Plus CD process which copies HP's factory set up information, therefore skipping activation.
  • If a customer cannot use the HP Restore Plus CD process and must install Microsoft Windows directly from the HP OEM OS CD, to successfully complete that process, the customer will need to provide Stock Keeping Unit (SKU) information from a tag on the workstation to Microsoft during the phone call. The SKU information is on the service tag and is the OS product number in the lower right hand section of the tag. It should say "OS: XXXXXXX" where the "XXXXXXX" is the OS product number.
