HP Plasma and LCD TVs - Troubleshooting the Remote Control

This document pertains to HP Plasma and LCD TVs.
Use this document when the remote control does not work correctly.
When there is no response from the remote control
Use the following items to troubleshoot when the remote control does not respond or when the remote control does not work properly.
  • Check that the indicator light on the remote control lights up or blinks when you press a button. If it does not, replace the batteries.
      note:
For some remote controls, the indicator light is the Device light.
  • Check that the batteries for the remote control are installed correctly and charged.
  • Check that the remote control sensor window on the front of the TV is not blocked or in direct bright light.
  • Check that there are no obstacles between the remote control and the remote control sensor window on the front of the TV.
  • Point the remote control at the TV within the operating range, usually 30-degree angle and less than 16.4 feet (5 meters) away.
  • Press the Enter key on the remote control after entering a channel number.
When the remote control does not control the equipment
Use the following items to troubleshoot when the remote control does not control the TV or other home entertainment equipment.
  note:
Some TV remote controls can control only the TV and cannot control other home entertainment equipment (programmed devices).
  • Make sure the indicator on the remote control shows the correct device. If necessary, press the Device button on the remote control to select the correct device.
  • Make sure that you are pointing the remote control at the remote control sensor window of the selected device.
  • Check that the selected device can be controlled by an infrared remote control (the device you are trying to control is compatible with the remote).
  • Check that the remote control is programmed for the device.
      note:
Some TV remote controls can be programmed only for listed devices.
For steps to program the device buttons on the remote control, see "Using the Remote Control" from the "How to use" section of your TV's support page.
When your universal remote does not find the HP TV code
  • If HP is not listed in the supported brand codes when you want to program a universal remote control to operate your HP TV, use a Philips TV code. The HP remote control transmits Philips-licensed remote control codes. After programming your universal remote control with a Philips TV code, it can operate your HP TV functions for volume, mute, power, and input source.
  • For information on using a universal remote control with your HP TV, see Programming Universal Remote Controls for HP TVs.
Nothing happens when the Media button is pressed
For MediaSmart TVs:
  • Check that the indicator on the remote control shows TV as the selected device. If necessary, press the Device button on the remote control to select TV.
  • Point the remote control at the TV within the operating range, usually 30-degree angle and less than 16.4 feet (5 meters) away.
  • Check that the MediaSmart A and B cables are securely connected at each end.
