HP Designjet 2800 and 3800 Printers - How to Install the Fiery Postscript Driver Via the Web or Web Tools

Introduction

There are two ways to install Fiery drivers, via the web or Web Tools. Instructions below are for setting up as a local printer (using LPT1 or LPT2 port).

Loading Fiery driver from Web

Essentially, you will obtain the .ppd file from Designjet online first, then will go to the Adobe website to get the Generic Postscript driver, then attaching/associating the Fiery .ppd file to the generic Postscript driver.
The Fiery driver is only listed for Windows 2000 on Designjet online. This driver may be used for other operating systems but supported operating systems are Windows 95, 98, Windows NT-4, and Windows 2000.
  1. Click here to go to HP Designjet Online at www.designjet.hp.com.
  2. Under drivers, select the appropriate printer model.
  3. Select the appropriate Operating System (OS).
  4. Select the Download option.
  5. Select Save, and save in a desired location.
  6. Double-click the file name to unzip file to a desired location.
  7. Double-click unzipped file, a sub- folder called English will appear. Click the English folder (should see two files, Eflh3011.ppd and Oemsetup.exe).
  8. Now, click here to go to www.adobe.com to load the Postscript driver.
    • Click Support, then Downloads.
    • Find PostScript printer drivers, and select Windows.
    • Scroll to and click Adobe Universal Postscript Windows Driver Installer 1.0.6 - English.
    • Click on the red download button and save the file to your desktop (recommended).
      note:
The icon on the desktop will be named Winsteng.
  9. Double-click the Winsteng icon, which will unpack the files and start a new screen called Adobe Postscript Driver Setup.
  10. Click the Next button twice and a Printer Installation Type dialog box will appear. Select Install a new printer and click Next.
  11. In the Select Printer Model dialog box, select Browse and navigate to the ppd file downloaded from Designjet online. Open the English folder, which will contain a file named Fiery X2W Designjet CPv1.5 (which is the .ppd file), and then click OK.
  12. In the next dialog box, select Not Shared, and then select Next.
  13. In the printer info box the name should be Fiery X2W…, click Next.
  14. Click the Install button.
    note:
If a digital signature not found message appears, ignore this message and select YES.
    note:
A dialog box called files needed might appear. If so, a file named PSCRIPT5.DLL is needed. Run a FIND/SEARCH to locate this file on the computer or, load from the WIndows disk if unable to find on the computer.
  15. The next screen will prompt Would you like to configure your printer now, select NO then click Next.
  16. When setup complete prompt appears, select Finish.
  17. From the main Windows desktop, select Start, Settings, Printers and verity the new Fiery driver did install.
  18. Run a test print from the driver to verify operation.

Loading from the Fiery Web Tools

  1. Print out a Config page from Fiery to get the IP Address information.
  2. Take the IP address from the Config sheet and enter this address into the Internet address bar of your computer's browser, this should bring up the Fiery Web Tools.
    note:
If the Web Tools does not appear, ping the IP address in DOS to see if the computer can communicate with the Fiery
  3. In Web Tools, click Installer (left of screen).
  4. A new screen will appear, click Printer Files under WINDOWS category.
    note:
Web Tools might ask for a login password, click Guest to gain access to installer.
  5. In the File Download dialog box, select Save this program to disk, and click OK.
  6. In the Save As dialog box, save the file Prntdrve to the desktop, and select Save.
    note:
Will download and copy file, then pop up a dialog box titled Download complete, press Close.
  7. Double click on the new Prntdrve icon on the desktop (will self-extract file and come up with a dialogue box named Choose Destination Location). this will bring up a dialog box called "Setup" with a fuel gage then will come up with a small dialog box called "Information," click the OK button and the screen will now close.
  8. Click Next.
  9. When the dialog box called Information appears, click OK (the screen will close).
  10. Using MS Explorer, find the C:/prntdrver folder and double-click the folder (will now show a new folder within that folder called Ps_drvr). Double-click this folder and a "Win_9x" and a "Win_nt4x" folder will appear.
  11. Double-click the proper folder for your OS.
    note:
If the operating system is running Windows 2000 or XP, select the Win_nt4x folder, this will work but, we do not support Win2000 or XP for the Fiery.
    note:
Depending on which folder is selected (win 9x or nt4) a different amount of files will be shown, but both folders contain the eflh3011.ppd file required to tag the printer/fiery type to the PS driver.
The Win_9x folder has a file called setup.exe which will load an older version of the Postscript driver (4.2). It is recommended to download the latest PS driver from Adobe.com.
The Win_nt4x folder does not have a setup.exe file. Go to Adobe.com to get the latest generic Postscript driver.
