HP PSC 2400 Photosmart All-in-One Printer Series- Setting up the All-in-One (Hardware)


This document explains how to set up the physical parts of the product. Complete these steps before you install the product software on your computer.
This document includes the following steps to set up the product:
  • Unpack the All-in-One
  • Attach the control panel cover, if not attached
  • Load the paper tray
  • Connect the power cord
  • Connect the phone/fax cable
  • Turn on the power
  • Install the cartridges

Setting up the All-in-One

Follow these steps in order.

Step One: Unpack the All-in-One

Remove the product from the box and remove all packing materials (tape and cardboard) from it.

Step Two: Install the control panel cover, if not attached

Carefully install the control panel cover over the buttons, and then press it firmly into place. For easier viewing, raise the display to a vertical position.

Step three: Load the paper tray

  1. Remove the output paper tray by lifting it out.

  2. Make sure that the width and length paper guides are set to their widest open position.
  3. Insert a stack of plain white paper.
  4. Slide the width and length paper guides in until they touch the paper.

  5. Reinstall the output paper tray.

Step four: Connect the power cord

  1. Plug the cord from the external power supply into the product.
  2. Plug the power cord into the external power supply.
  3. Plug the power cord into an electrical outlet or surge suppressor.

Step five: Connect the phone/fax cable

To use the product for faxing, you must attach it to a phone line using the phone/fax cable provided in the box. Skip to the next step if you do not plan to use the product for faxing.
Connect the phone/fax cable to the phone-line socket on the left marked "1 - Line", and then plug it directly into a wall phone jack.

The phone-line socket on the right is provided for connecting additional phone-line devices. Refer to Chapter 13 of the Reference Guide included with the product for additional connection instructions if the product will share the phone line with any of the following:
  • Answering machine and/or telephone.
  • PC dialup, DSL, or ISDN modem
  • Voice mail service
  • PBX phone system

Step six: Turn on the power

Press the On button on the control panel to turn on the product.

The display on the product might prompt you to set the language and country/region settings. Use the buttons on the control panel to set the correct values if this occurs. These settings must be correct or the displayed language will be incorrect and the fax features might not work correctly.

Step seven: Install the cartridges

  1. With the product turned on, raise the front door to access the carriage.

  2. Raise the two cartridge latches: Press down on the top of the latch while gently pulling out on the bottom portion with your thumb.
  3. Remove the cartridges from their packaging, and then remove the protective tape. Do not touch the gold-colored electrical contacts.

  4. With the printed label up, slide the cartridges into the carriage underneath the metal bar.
    • Insert the black or photo cartridge on the right side with the gray latch.
    • Insert the tri-color cartridge on the left side with the blue latch.

  5. Close the latches: Place your hand on the latch and use your thumb to gently pull the end of the latch toward you. While holding the end of the latch out, press down on the top of the latch until it stops and then release the lower portion of the latch with your thumb so that it catches under the tabs.
    DO NOT force the latches into place or damage to the product might occur.

  6. Close the access door.
    The front panel displays the message "Press OK to print Align Page" and the four function buttons blink.
  7. Press the OK button to automatically align the cartridges. The alignment is complete after the page prints.
