HP Designjet 1000 Series Printers - MicroStation/J Application Tips in Windows NT

Bentley Microstation tips

To print from MicroStation/J to an HP Designjet 1000 series printer:
  • Use the HP Designjet driver for Windows NT by HP (the “HP driver”), which is supplied with the printer, and must first be installed in your PC.
    Or
  • Use a generic plot driver from within MicroStation (HPGL/2, HPRTL or Postscript).
    Or
  • Use a Bentley StreamPlot driver from within MicroStation.
note:
For printing large files, for example those containing large amounts of raster data, HP recommends using Bentley ModelServer StreamPlot.
To select the driver, do the following:
  1. Go to File, then Print/Plot.
  2. From the Plot dialog box, go to Setup, then Driver.
  3. In the Select Plotter Driver File dialog box, select the driver.
    • For the HP driver, select printers.plt and then select your printer.
    • For a generic plot driver, select hpgl2.plt, hpglrtl.plt, pscriptc.plt, or any other appropriate driver.
    • For StreamPlot, select an appropriate StreamPlot driver, such as bmfrtl_bilevel_pp_print.plt or bmfrtl_rgb24_pp_print.rtl
    note:
You need go through the above routine only when you want to change the driver.
To configure the HP driver, do the following:

  2. Go to File, then Plot.

File formats

You have a choice of two file formats for sending a file to an HP Designjet 1000 Series printer:
  • HP-GL/2 – HP RTL
  • PostScript (only with either HP Designjet 1055CM printers or HP Designjet 1050c printers with the PostScript option installed)

Managing color

The application includes a specific color profile for each HP Designjet model. Make sure that you specify correctly the media type that is loaded.
To make color adjustments in the HP driver, go to Properties, then Color Control.

Line widths

Line width may vary with the Print Quality level chosen (for example, wider line widths with Draft). HP recommends choosing the Best print quality selection.

Scaling

To avoid possible line width problems, HP recommends scaling the image in the application rather than in the driver or in the printer’s front panel.

Managing print quality

You can select the Print Quality level from the HP driver (in Printer Properties).
