HP Digital Sender 9100C - Using the Activity Log

Introduction
The digital sender keeps a record of events in an activity log. Every event has an "owner" - the individual who initiated the action. System events (such as configuration changes made at the control panel) name the administrator as their owner.
Both users and the administrator can view the log, but each has different capabilities:
  • Users can view only the events they own as registered users and the events initiated by guest users. The administrator can view the log for the administrator, or the log for any user (registered or guest).
  • The activity log for a user can hold up to 100 events. The log for the administrator can hold up to 200 events.
When the maximum number of entries in the activity log is reached, new events begin overwriting the oldest events.
You can view the log, copy and paste it into another program, save it to a separate file, print it, or clear it.
Events recorded in the activity log
  • shutdown and restart
  • success or failure of an activity
  • user profile activity
  • erase of address book contents
  • backup
  • restore
  • firmware upgrade
  • system errors
  • changes in configuration made with the configuration menu at the control panel
  • change to e-mail configuration
  • change to fax configuration
  • convenience copy enabled or disabled
  • change to security configuration
Information recorded about each event
  • date
  • time
  • description of event
  • severity of event (normal, warning, error, fatal)
  • other information
To view the activity log for guest user or administrator
  1. Start the ABM.
  2. On the Tools menu, click ViewLog.
  3. Click either Administrator or Guest.
  4. You can keep the activity viewer open while you work on your computer. To close it, on the File menu, click Exit.
To view the activity log for a registered user
  1. Start the ABM.
  2. Click Users.
  3. Click the user whose log you want to see.
  4. On the Tools menu, click ViewLog.
  5. Click the user name.
  6. You can keep the activity viewer open while you work on your computer. To close it, on the File menu, click Exit.
To use the activity log
The activity viewer shows different information about the messages arranged in columns. You can sort the messages by the type of information (for example, by severity in order to list all fatal messages first). To do this, click the top of the column containing that information. The status bar at the bottom of the viewer shows how many messages are in the log for each type of message.
To print the log
On the File menu, click Print.
To copy the log
You can copy all or parts of the log to the Windows Clipboard and then paste it into another program (such as Microsoft (R) Excel). The program you paste the log into must accept tab-delimited files.
  1. Select the portion of the log you want to copy.
  2. On the Edit menu, click Copy to place the information in the Clipboard.
To save the log
  1. On the File menu, click SaveAs.
  2. Name the file using your preferred format, and choose a folder.
  3. Click OK.
To clear the log
Clearing the log is useful if you are troubleshooting problems. Once you clear the log, entries reflect only current conditions. Clearing the log is also useful when you have moved the digital sender, or made major configuration changes.
On the Edit menu, click Clear.
To refresh the log
If you have left the log open while you have been working, you might need to refresh the log to see the most current information.
On the Edit menu, click Refresh.
