HP Network Scanjet 5 Scanner - HP Jetadmin Error: Printer Communication Error

Issue:
What should I do if, after selecting the Properties screen for the HP Network Scanjet 5 scanner in HP Jetadmin, the following message appears: "Printer Communication Error?"
Solution
Use the following instructions:
  1. Install the scanner applet by running setup.exe found under Adminsw\english\win95\Scanapp\Disk1 on the HP Network Scanjet scanner CD-ROM if you are running HP Jetadmin on Windows 95 or Adminsw\english\Winnt\Scanapp\Disk1 if you are running HP Jetadmin on a Windows NT workstation or server.
  2. Check to see if the applets are installed by finding the files HPSCAN.HPA and HPSCANUI.HPA. These should be in the \WINDOWS\SYSTEM directory (for Windows 95) or the \WINNT\SYTEM32 directory (for Windows NT). Or
  3. In HP Jetadmin, go to HELP and ABOUT...
  4. Select SYSTEM INFO.
  5. Select DLLs USED. You will see System, Command and User Interface Applets.
  6. Click the plus sign for Command or User Interface Applets and look for HP Network Scanjet scanner.
Summary
Even if the HPSCAN.HPA and HPSCANUI.HPA files are found, HP Jetadmin may not see the information contained within these files.
In HP Jetadmin 2.4 or greater, if you do not see a scroll (on the right side) in the System Info box, this is caused by a conflict with Internet Explorer 4.0 or greater.
Try reinstalling the scanner applets with nothing running in the background, or try installing on another PC.
